Dissapointed and Kicking Myself!!!!!
I was a half hour too late on a Cooper M21 Montana Varminter with upgraded walnut stock and it had less than 100 pills down the tube . Some guy in Georgia got it...... FOR $900!!!!!!!!!! Whoops whoops whoops!! ! What makes it worse is the 5 pictures of it the guy sent me, the walnut markings were AMAZING! Oh well....trying to save a lil money for the upcoming wedding. Just thought I would rant a little bit! -Dan

db,
That rifle had a bent barrel and unfixable rust in the action. Do you feel better now?

Not to mention the gator checked throat that extended well up the barrel which meant it would need a new barrel, not just a setback.

Re: Dissapointed and Kicking Myself!!!!!
Danny - you need to BUILD a Savage.
Just finished a couple of them....
LRPV/Target action with an F-Class stock, both supporting a 22/6mm AI chambered Krieger barrel. Still in load development. Using 69 HPBT's and 75 gr AMax's. So far, RL19 is leading the pack, but it is VERY early in load development. (69 gr HPBT's at 3854 fps and 75 gr AMax's at 3825 - I WILL back both loads down a touch). I am hoping this will allow me to know a couple of prairie dogs off at 1000 yards.
Because I have two slow twist 223 AI's, I just had to build a fast twist Savage 223 AI.
Action is a Stevens short action bedded in a B & C Gold Medalist Tactical stock (REALLY like this stock, especially the price!!!). Used a 1:9 twist stainless fluted factory Savage barrel and my trusty no turn neck 223 AI reamer.
So far, 69 gr HPBT's at 33xx fps and 75 gr AMax's at 31xx fps. Of note, the 75 gr AMax's do not drop as much at 300 yards as the 69 gr HPBT's do....kind of odd what BC really does for you.
I do not know if the 223 AI and heavier bullets will allow me to shoot past 8/900 yards. Bullets might drop out of supersonic and start to wobble. This spring, shooting my Rem 722 Hart barrelled 223 AI, 52 gr HPBT's were DONE at 575 yards, they were going through the target sideways at 600. Generic 55 gr SP's were good to 700 yards though. Go figure!!!

Re: Dissapointed and Kicking Myself!!!!!
Acloco, VERY NICE BUILDS! I have been wanting to build a Savage target action since I got my LRPV about 2 years ago. I have become addicted to rifles, target shooting, reloading, and PD popping! I have always had shotguns..... but now I am up to a LRPV in .204, a Savage 12FV in .204 that I put into a pretty Nutmeg thumbhole, and i finally got my AR-15 w/ a 20"bull in .223. I have gotten all 3 rifles well under a 1/2" 5 shot groups.
Main reason I was mad was b/c it was a cooper for dirt cheap and b/c since it was a good deal the fiance was ok with me getting it........we are saving for the wedding next spring! So I had the old "I DON'T CARE...JUST GET IT" from her and then it didn't happen. Where as, she knows darn well that if I start building rifles.....(which I really really want to)....that I will only want to do another, and another, and another.
I think I am finally got the reloading part down to a science....or at least good enough for me. But my fiance's dad knows how to do that. So diving into building a rifle is kinda intimidating b/c I don't have anyone who knows what they are doing showing me how. Plus I would need to get all the tools....which I also want. I know that a Savage would be a perfect start for me to try, which is what I think I will probably do.
How do you like that B&C stock? Is this your first one. I know people use them but I havn't read up on them. How do they compare with a McMillan or a HS Precision? Does the B&C have a bedding block?
Thanks for the pics of your builds, i liked them! And where did you get the used target action for the cheap?! Sorry for the long reply and so many questions. I appreciate your time. -Dan
