The Great Rat Rodeo

Post by Captqc »

The Great Rat Rodeo of 08 is now in the books! This year we had to get by without our fearless leader "Rick in Oregon" as he decided to have life saving surgery rather than go shooting  Go figure! We had a guest shooter with us this year, board member "Futuretrades" Image
This year I added Old Glory and our Eastern Oregon Raptor Feeding Society flag and as soon as I posted the colors I swear that I heard Skippy and his friends say "Oh S__t it's the E.O.R.F.S" Image
Rat Force One taking a break Image

We had thunder showers coming through on Saturday, these started 130 fires in Northern Kalifornia Image
On Saturday we all had a great BBQ, if you've never had turkey BBQ'd in beer you haven't lived! Image
My new Ruger Charger does the trick! Image
A great time was had by all!

I am leaving the 11th for Alturas I should be there by Sunday or Monday. Traveling alone again I am hoping to meet up with my brother down the road for some shooting fun. I have taken five weeks off to do some shooting. The price of gas is going to hurt a little this year.

hey gary
tried sending this post for a while, but something was screwy with the board. anyway, I would like to thank you and dan again for making my trip to the great rat rodeo, a very memorable occasion. and treating me like one of the gang, i really had a good time, just sorry i had to end the weekend early on sunday.
really sorry rick couldn't make it this year. i was looking forward to meeting him in person. always fun to get together with fellow shooters, and a great bunch of very hospitable people in general. and the food was great too.
thanks again

The Great Rat Rodeo indeed......sure wish I could have been there. The view from my hospital room could not even compare to those lush rat-filled fields, and with no varmint rifle at hand, it was no contest.

I see that Captqc, being the modest and shy type he is, failed to post a photo of himself having fun at his bench with his pet Remmy 204. So in the interest of fairness, here's a shot of him at the Rat Rodeo last year having his way with Skippy and his pals. Now the story is complete.

This grin did not happen by chance.......Skippy just launched! ;)

Kevin,
I was serious when I said that right from the start you fit in as one of the bunch. We really enjoyed your company, it's just too bad that you didn't get to meet Rick.
Rick, You know that picture makes me look fat! Oh wait, I am fat :duh:

Gary:
That is not necessarily fat.....
- It's your "safety pack" for extended shooting periods when food is not available.
- It's insulation from hot weather during squirrel shoots.
- It's your "culinary investment" from Five Star dining while away from home on rat shoots.

Fat, rat, hat.....who cares as long as you can shoot! We like you just the way you are. ;)

Kevin: Next year buddy, next year! All these .50 caliber ammo cans full of handloaded 204 ammo for two rifles just sitting in my gun room is driving me nuts! I never thought I'd want to see a bunch of empty cases so much. Next year........ :?

Nice story and photos captqc. Looks like you guys have quite the "get together" when you head out. I like your "raptor feeding society" flag. I should get a "chapter" started out here in Albertra

hey rick, i got plenty of empties that i haven't had a chance to reload after the shoot! too busy with other interests right now, but if you want i can send them to you so you stay in practice

i still have not worked up a load for the 39 bk's i bought. just too hot and too many other things going on, but i will be working with them real soon.

I am already looking forward to next year. and come february, skippy is in trouble again here closer to home, and at the great rat rodeo next june.

after the wind destroyed my shade, i already replaced it with another of considerable better quality, so i am already getting ready for next year.

gary the picture you took of me makes me look fat also  but then i am fat also, but i love me anyway
