Ruger Compact Magnum?
Hello All, I am a new member but I have been lurking around for about six months. Well, this fall I get to go elk hunting for the first time. So I get to go out and buy a new rifle. I was thinking about the new Ruger Compact Magnum in .300 or .338. Was just wondering what the general consensus is about them or should I be looking at something else? Thanks, Richard

They are so new that not much is out there on 'em right now. I don't even know if they've released any for sale yet. What very little I've heard, is only speculation, at that. For this kind of stuff, I usually go to the campfire, as those guys have more money than sense , and buy new stuff a LOT. They also have a few gunwriters checking in from time to time, most notably, John Barsness.

The published ballistics look pretty good, but frankly, are they any better than anything else out there (and there are a LOT of repetitive choices that all do the same thing), who knows?
