Crow bashing with extras!!

Post by adam »

Went out tonight for quick walk after work aat one of my local farms and happend upon two crows in one of the far fields. Sneaking up onto the top of the brow, I thought I was pushing my luck and they might see me, but to my amazement I they resumed what they were doing and didn't even look at me suspiciously!! I put the legs of the bi-pod down and lay next to the rifle to range the crow with the safest back stop. 380yds!!! I looked at my range cards and dialled in the correct elevation. I then checked the wind and guestimated it to be approximately 8-10 mph at 3 o'clock. I looked at the range cards and dialled in the correction. Settling down on the ground, i re checked the range and he had come down to 175, but was waddling about all over the place. I put my field bag under the butt and settled the cross hairs on him, and tracked him through the scope. He stopped pulling at some turf in the field and then stood up, almost as though he was looking at me straight down the scope! It was enough time for me to let the shot go! I thought I had missed as I saw the dust kick up just behind him, and as I watched through the Leupold he seemed to take a step forward, and then just flopped forward motionless! :D Much addrenalin and talking to myself ensued, and I went over to retrieve him and take pics. Final range check 377yds.
The bullet had passed straight through his chest and out the other side. As I was finishing up, I saw something to my left. To my amazement a fox was coming over the brow of the field. I managed to crawl backwards to the hedge, but he saw me and ran out of sight over the other side of the brow. I tried squeeking as I set up the tri-sticks, and he appeared at the far hedge walking towards the gate inti the next field. I squeeked again and he stopped. I slipped the trigger and down he went. 150yds. What a night.
I shot the crow with 40grain rem factory ammo and the fox with 40grain hornady factory ammo.
Gonna try post pics in next day or two.
Off to clean my special woman now. She deserves some extra tlc after tonughts performance!! :D

I only have to be lucky once,
the fox has to be lucky every time!
