Hi, im getting ready to buy a Ruger M77 MKII 204 Cal, can someone please tell me anything about these rifles before i buy it........ I had a question on another fourm site saying something about the barrels not holding up, that the barrel will burn out, can someone please help me out thank you

cbbase34, Nose around on here. You will find that no one is burning up barrels if that is what the poster on another forum was refering to.

Hey, fwiw, the 204 MK II only has a 22" barrel compared to the Hawkeye with a 24" barrel.

i like my mk11 for a nice carry rifle.its not my most acurate 204 but still less than 3/4" at a hundred yards with 32 v maxes 32 bks and 35 bergers

I have that in a ultra-light version for chasing coyotes. I love it. fun gun with good balance, and I couldn't beat the price. However, I do suggust a trigger upgrade with it. It will make a huge difference.

I have the Ruger MkII target grey and it shoots great. It shoots better I can for sure.

I have a Ruger MK II with a 24" standard blue barrel. Is it like the rifle you're looking at? Anyway, I bought mine back in August and have had alot of trouble finding how to make mine shoot with the kind of accuracy I want. But it's a sporter not a target rifle and it's not going to be a natural tack driver, at least mine has'nt been. But with a little work, and alot of excellent advise from the guys on this site, I'm starting to figure out how to make it get those little groups. I'm still working on the fine points though. This is what I had to do to make it start comming around. I installed a Timney trigger, glass bedded the stock, kept the bore clean, and just kept trying and trying different load combinations - alot of them from this site - until I found a combination that showed promise. I use my rifle for walking, calling, and stalking coyotes and small game. And out to 200 yards it's doing what I need. There are several other guys here that can help you with the Mk II 77. But if you want easier more consistant accuracy, and size or weight does'nt bother you, I'd get a Savage modle 12VLP or Rem 700. Just my thoughts.

Hi there, thanks very much for the replys, i think after i get my gun im going to start with a RUGER 77 MK II SINGLE SET TRIGGER, guess Brownells has that, i will get that put on and see what the gun will do for me then, yes it has the 24" barrel. thanks so much for all your help

I have a mk11 77 in laminate stock. Barrel was cut to 22" and it shoots fine. Knocks rabbits over at 300 yds a treat and thats with factory ammo. 40gr rem accutips.

I have a standard Model 77 MArk ii in the 204 and just had the trigger replaced with a timney to about a pound. I haven't had it at the range yet (except for 1 very windy day) so i ca't truly tell if increased accuracy at all. After a couple of days at the range if its not shooting sub .75 i am thinking of replacing the wood stock with a hogue overmold full bed block..

By the way would anyone know if this Hogue stock would weight in more or less than the standard wood stock.
