Loads for the XR-100

Post by VarMitt »

Just joined .204 and would like to say hello to everyone. My question is, has anyone found accurate loads for the .204 Remington XR-100. So far I haven't found the right match for this gun. Here is the run down so far. I have tried the following powders: Varget, Benchmark and H322. With the following bullets, Nossler BT and VMax both 32 and 40grs. Using CCI primers and Winchester brass. To date 1) 24.1 grs. of H322 and 40gr. VMAX 2) 27.0 grs. of H322 and 32gr. VMAX combinations have produced the most satisfactory results. But still has not matched the 3/8 in. five shot group accuracy with my old reliable 22-250. I have purchased Sierra 32 and 39gr. BlitzKing bullets, but have not loaded any yet.
I would appreciate anyones comments and their experience with reloading for this rifle.
Thanks VarMitt

Welcome to the forum! I"m shooting a Remington LVSF and a Ruger Target Gray, but based on my experience, limited though it may be, I'll make a suggestion: 25.1gr of RL10X under the 39gr Sierra has been one of my best loads. Also, 26.6gr of Benchmark with the 35gr Bergers. I'd urge you to give the 35gr Bergers a try. N133 has also done well for me.....

Each rifle may like something different. That just gives us an excuse to shoot more. Try everything and see what it likes the best.

I have, er had, an XR-100 that loved 25.1 gr RE-10X, 40 gr. Berger, CCI BR4 primer with WW or RP brass. The rifle still likes the RE-10X but it doesn't belong to me any more. My son took it over. I found that RE-10X worked well with all the bullets I shoot. H4895 came in a very, very close second. Here are some loads to try.

32 gr. Sierra, 26.0 gr. RE-10X, CCI BR4, WW or RP
35 gr. Berger, 25.5 gr. RE-10X, CCI BR4, WW or RP
39 gr. Sierra, 25.1 gr. RE-10X, CCI BR4, WW or RP
40 gr. Berger, 25.1 gr. RE-10X, CCI BR4, WW or RP
45 gr. Hornady, 24.5 gr. RE-10X, CCI BR 4, WW or RP

The Remington 7 1/2 primers are pretty good also. Good Luck.

Mine likes the 39 grain SBK pushed with 27.7 grains of RE-15, BR4 primer and Hornady brass. To date best groups have been obtained with a OAL of 2.32.

It will also shoot the 32 V-Max well with 30 grains of BL-C(2), BR4 primer and Hornady brass. OAL was 2.26

Thank you WrzWaldo, Skipper, Vartarg for your welcome and advice. I will try the Re-10X.
Worked up some Sierra BK loads with Benchmark, Varget and H322. Looking forward to seeing the results.
Been reading impressive results about XMR-2015. Has anyone one had luck with XMR-2015?
To my surprise this XR-100 rifle is much more finicky, than my 22-250 Browning A Bolt.
