Re: Marlin Model 983 22 magnum in REAL Walnut
My brother got one that way last year. Worked well. I gonna wait for the noggin shot with the WMR. A little more snow would help also. The sun melted most of the 2 inches we had. Once we get a good snow cover I'll be able to see him. Thats when I make my move If he doesn't give me a shot ,I'll wait THEN

Thats all Dad & his friends used years ago when they called fox at night. Most of them were taken with a 20ga too.
The 5" of snow in my above pics have been reduced to near nothing by the all night/day rain here. It's supposed to rain thru Thursday here. e.

Re: Marlin Model 983 22 magnum in REAL Walnut
I called the gun shop today to find out why they haven't called me. They said last week my WMR was shipped .Well, today they said nada till next run. After that I went back to the rack and there she was . A CZ American 452 in 22WMR with beautiful wood. It followed me home . I'll post a picture with mr fox . Last night at 1:30am he was back in my yard. Now that snow is on the ground, I could get a good look at him. He offered MANY 50-80 yard shots in the 10 minutes I watched. If it wasn't a school night, I would have popped him with my mach2 . But then I wouldn't have a reason to get a new gun .

Re: Marlin Model 983 22 magnum in REAL Walnut
My very first dedicated 'varmint rifle' was a cherry Marlin Model 980DL 22WMR. Clip fed, walnut stock, and blue action & barrel. It wore the old Bushnell 2-8X rimfire scope, and accounted for many, many fat California ground squirrels.
It graduated into my first centerfire varmint rifle, my M700 22-250 Varmint Special around 1971, but I still miss my old Marlin, and wish I still had it. Another nice one that slipped through my fingers......

Glen.. I canceled the Marlin. I'm Kinda glad they couldn't get one now that I have the CZ. One WMR is all that's needed here. I'll be at the range Saturday morning sighting her in ..... Mr fox was back again last night.

You still got good one!! Can't wait to see the pics of it & how she shoots. It's gonna look nice laying across that red fox too.

Re: Marlin Model 983 22 magnum in REAL Walnut
Here she is. The scope is a 4-12x40 Simmons Master series prohunter with side focus. I used the CZ rings. Expensive little buggers but nice . The trigger is nice poundage wise,It's the creep I need to get rid of. Anything I should know before I take her apart to adjust?? I'll ask Santa for a new camera
Here is a picture of my fox in summertime. Not sure if he's a red or gray. I'm pretty sure it's the same one coming around now. He likes to walk the back fence line on the inside . It's about a 90 yard shot.

Re: Marlin Model 983 22 magnum in REAL Walnut
I`ve done 4 triggers on C.Z rimfires, all with Eric Brook`s kits.Finished with some really nice triggers.Best thing about them is how easy they are to fit, which is quite fortunate,as my mechanical skill`s aren`t the best in the world.

That one otta do the trick for ya!! Nice rig for sure. Can't help you on the trigger other than what foxwhislter said about the Brooks kits. I hear nothing but good about then & they are very inexpensive as well.
Nice rig!!

Re: Marlin Model 983 22 magnum in REAL Walnut
Thanks Foxwhistler. Now that I've had it apart and see the kit. Looks like all I need is a bushing on the front pin to take up the slop. A bushing I will make .
I have 49 rounds to shoot in the morning . Gotta save one .. What's the deal with break-in... I assume it's the same as a centerfire .

You wont need the springs if your already happy with the weight of pull,as you said.
As far as barrel break in goes,i`ve allways done the same with my 17`s as my centerfire, and they shoot nice and clean easy.
Hope you get plenty of pleasure from the rifle, and i`m hoping to see a real close up of that fox before too long.

Re: Marlin Model 983 22 magnum in REAL Walnut
I went to the range today for a quickie. It was only 12 degrees. We're all sighted in at 100. It's officially "Game On" for Mr. fox.
I adjusted the trigger spring and the creep is a lot easier to live with. It's kinda like a two stage.
Almost forgot, We got our first kill, A Starling at 80 yards off the bipod.
