Marlin Model 983 22 magnum in REAL Walnut

I'm in the market for a 22WMR. I looked at a CZ yesterday and that's a little pricey at $400+. Don't get me wrong the CZ is definitely nice.Just don't want to spend that much. I'm now looking at the Marlin 983 with a real Walnut stock.Never seen it in person yet. Anybody ever see or have a Marlin 983 in Walnut. Also, If anybody has a CZ, I'd like to hear about it. If you have a like new WMR for sale, PM me The picture is the 983 Marlin.

Look at one side by side to the Savage-looks like they were made in the same mold. EXCEPT, the Savage has the accu-trigger for a similar price. Makes you think doesn't it. The Marlin trigger is the pits and it'll cost you $80 or so for a better trigger.

I hope to get the Marlin for no more than $250. I did look at the Savage thumbhole. Kinda liked the wood on the CZ better. See what your doing. Your putting me in the $400 range

You should be able to get standard barrel wood at $200 or heavy barrel synthetic for $225. You don't have to buy that beautifull laminated stainless heavy barrel that shoots bug holes for a measly $375 unless you really want to go first glass.

Heads up!! If your using a scope with a variable ocular lens the bolt might hit the scope if you're using just low rings. Mine did. So I ordered the bases for it which have to come from Marlin. I ordered them on 11-15 & they charged my account on 11-21 & I'm still waiting on them. I'm calling them tomorrow & I'm not gonna be happy when I do. I shoulda went with the Burris Zee rings & been done with it I guess. On the lighter side of it tho,, this is my 4th Marlin & 3rd rimfire. And I gotta say this,, the trigger is way better then the last 2 that needed a RifleBasix dropin. I'm gonna stone this one just a touch & leave it at that. It's at 4lbs right now & it's a cold weather gun.

That's the one Glen . I like it!!.. Use some hot glue to mount the scope and let me know how it shoots . The $200 savage has a "LIKE" Walnut finish. In other words. Dark stain on hardwood .I already have two of them, a 17 mach2 and a semi-auto 22lr .Fine shooters they are though! I think i'm sold on the Marlin.We'll see what we can find tomorrow.

No worries here!! My bases came today & I had to swap out the rings at the gun shop a few minutes ago. So it'll be scoped & ready before too long.

Did you shoot it yet??? Mine is on it's way along with a scope. Just after I ordered the scope Gmoney listed his . And I was looking at the Pentax oh well. I picked up a cheapo 4-12x40 Simmons with side focus. I also picked up a box of CCI 40 grain Game Points. This looks like the least explosive bullet in 22 magnum. Mr. fox, meet game point If anybody has experience with 22mag bullets. I would like to hear how they perform on game.

These are the mild conditions I shot that group in.



Here is the end results of a 34gr CCI Maxi Mag to lower jaw into the back of the head on a 12lb female coon yesterday at 20yds.



She is a nice one. I'm having the hide done on this one.

The 34gr'ers actually shot better at 30yds than the 40's. Could be I was really cold when I shot the last of those & went to the truck for a few minutes to warm back up before shooting the 34's. I'll stick with those for now & I have 2 more boxes of ammo to try yet. Just not until it warms up a bit. Most Rf seem to like the 40gr Maxi Mags but the Remington with the V-Max is very accurate as well. Winchester has some good 22WMR ammo & I have 2 boxes of that to try yet. I started with the CCI since I've always had very good luck with CCI labelled ammo.

Thanks!! That tree is huge!! 6 feet to my left is the river & 50yds to my right is a crop field. That tree is fed rather well.

Plus I'm only 5'9".

I hope my 22mag gets here soon. This morning at 3:00 and 6:45am my crittergetter went off. I got up to see if I could find the little bugger. Not sure how,But he was in my yard again! I could see him running back and forth inside the fence line. I was tempted to blast Mr fox with my 204 but decieded a baseball size hole in the fur was not cool! We'll save the 204 for the yotes. Ya know, It's been many weeks since I heard a coyote howl .

I'm still trying to figure this 204/fox thing out. Some fellas are doing good with em & others are tearing em up. Either way ol Maggie oughta get the trick done nicely for you.

My fox is Very small. Maybe 25lbs. They just don't have that barrel chest like a coyote. If he would just stand still for a few seconds I could get him with a head shot.For some reason He never stops, He's constantly on the move
