That's the plan. 204 and 6mmPPC to start. Custom barrels are cheaper than rifles ,aren't theyjo191145 wrote:Hawkeye Joe wrote: Anybody know the difference between the 6.5-284 Norma and 6.5-284 Winchester??
PS that sure looks like a nice frame for switchbarrel customs.

I was able to get 6 rounds off today. Then the Bulldozers arrived to work on the 100 yard backstop . I cleaned out the gutters on the range roof so it wasn't a total loss . The rifle tracks superb in the bags with a lot less recoil than expected. It may soon be my favorite. I like everything about it,and the NF makes it even better . I'm told the range will be open Sunday evening. I'll be there! I'll post accuracy results as soon as I can.

Hawkeye Joe what brand of barrel are you going to go with on the 204 and the 6mm PPC. I'm thinking about a 6mm PPC barrel for my Savage also in the near future, Of course you know you will have to change bolt heads also.

I have about 25 rounds down the pipe now. It's showing promise. Here are some 200 yarders. The top 3 shot target was punched with 47.4 grains of H4831sc, Velocity average was 2600. Bottom was shot with 47.7gr of H4831sc. All were shot with the 140gr Breger VLD's. They look like pencils out of the case The 6.5/284 sure has some VERY low ES's. I thought the Chrony was broke. It kept showing the same number

That's pretty impressive for 200 yard groups out of a brand new rifle. Are you able to reach the lands? If so, are you loading into the lands?

I'm .250 off the lands at a OAL of 3.010. To hit the lands I need a OAL of 3.260. And that only leaves .100 of bearing surface in the case. I have some 140gr Sierra HPBT's ordered. They should put me in the lands at a OAL of 3.125

Re: New Savage 6.5-284 Norma Pics and ???
Here's a little update on my 6.5/284. The top set of targets was shot with the 140gr VLD Berger's and H4831sc. I'm about .100 off the lands with the Berger's. Yes, I'm still shootin ladder loads. The 48.9 load was shot with a hot and dirty barrel. The bottom set was shot with 140gr Sierra HPBT and H4831sc just touching the lands. Velocity is about 2650 FPS with both bullets. I'm slowly creeping up to the 2800+ mark which seems to be what the 6.5 likes. So far the faster they get, The smaller the groups get. Still no signs of pressure. The 49-51 grain mark is my goal. Looks like the next time out i'll get there. I now have about 50 rounds down the pipe. All targets are 200 yarders.
140gr Sierra ladder below. The 3 holes on the top right edge are from a 22/250

You mean the 2800 mark....right? (not being a smarty pants...just thinking of you).
Have you tried the 142 AMax yet? Bet you can reach the lands then.
Believe it or not, I shoot the same bullets as you...but in a couple of Swede 6.5x55's. I will never be able to reach the lands in them....unless...I cut a #2 pencil in half....nah...forget it.
Nice groups by the way.
