.204 @ 600 YDS Results

I shot the 1/9 twist Dtech AR at a 600 yd. practice session with some friends that shoot the matches with all the high dollar rifles. Even a David Tubb gun was there. Out of a possible 600 points the little .204 with 50 gr. Bergers shot a 598 with 33 in the X ring. This was my first time to shoot a full 3 rds. of 20 shots. On my last 20 shot rd. it shot 12 x's and the rest all in the 10 ring. I was surprised at how consistant the .204 was. Lucky for me the wind wasn't too bad this morning. The .204 rocks.

Congratulations! That's good shooting! 600 yards is a far piece, with any kind of rifle. You done good!

jog: Very cool bud, good shooting. I wish you could email your post to Charles Petty, after he wrote that disparaging article in Guns Magazine a couple of issues back.....something to the effect that

"The 204 would blow off course past 200 yards if a mouse passed wind"

Yeah, he's a varmint rifle expert all right................NOT!

Petty, Chuck should stick to 1911 .45s, where he actually KNOWS what he's talking about. He's out of his league when he gets out of his niche.

That's awesome shooting. I love that long range stuff. My 12 twist Savages are doing well to 525 with 40 gr btips and 39 bkings. I can't quite get the stability to group well at 600 and call it a 600 yard cartridge. My next barrel will be a faster twist for those 50's. Thanks for the good info.

I had a guy next to me at the range one morning blaming the wind for his lousy groups at 200 yards with a .308. I then showed him my 300 yarder with a 35 grain pill. Well, I guess it aint the wind he said

. Something tells me the shooter ,ammo or the rifle wasn't up to par.

Hawk: Not to hijack jog's thread, but talking wind and the 204, I've found that when shooting rats past 300 yards, the holdoff for wind, even with the 32 BK's, is almost nil when compared to even my .223 Ackley shooting 50's.

In my first trips out with my Sako 204, if I held off into the wind even 2" at 300+ on a rat when shooting a 32 grainer, I'd miss clean. It took a bit of disipline NOT to hold off. Now after two full seasons shooting Skippy with the 204, I'm still as giddy as a shoolboy with the 204 as I was the first time out..........she's a REAL flat shootin' puppy!

See Skippy poking his head out of his hole at 450 yards, mild breeze, dial-a-rat on the elevation turret, hold dead-on, squeeze...........launch! Works for me!
