Squirrels w/Ruger 10/22; CCI Segmented HP

Post by Bodei »

Went out last week and found some Belding's ground squirrels to plink at with my Ruger 10/22. I hit a pair with one shot from about 60+ yards or so. Didn't know I got two until I performed the insepction. Using CCI Segmented 32gr HPs. These knock em dead. Upon impact the bullet breaks into three equal pieces, pretty cool. I just upgraded my barrel to a Kidd 20" Bentz chamber so I cant use the Segmented rounds anymore (Stinger length case). Does anyone know or have a preference for accurate, quick killing .22LR. I was looking at the Aguila 1750 fps stuff, but it might not work in my barrel either.

I still like my CCI HP.....but my buddy shoots and loves Winchester Powerpoint 40 gr HP.....I would say try them both and whatever flavor your Rifle likes go with....

I've tried a bunch of stuff since that post. Win PP's are probably the best overall considering price and effectiveness. The Segmented offerings CCI and Winchester Varmint HV are really effective, but pricey in bulk. The Win. segmented is less accurate. I got some Winchester "Bushman" that seems good that I bought 5,000 from Cabelas this year, ready for the rat fields next Spring.

CCI Mini-Mag HP has long been my favorite .22LR round but I’ve recently switched to CCI Velocitor for putting a real hurting on critters destined for the buzzards.

How did the CCI segmented shoot as far as accuracy? I know it would be wasting it to shoot groups, but just wondering.

I found the CCI segmented to be very accurate, even the HV type. Remember, there are Stinger length and standard segmented versions. If the price were better they would be my varmint round of choice.
