Can anyone tell me the difference between the Savage Mark II and the Savage 93. I'm looking at .17 HRM's and found these two rifles...

The twist rate is different...1 in 9" for the 93 vs. 1 in 16" for the Mark II. Does one twist rate work better for the .17 HMR?

I'm also looking at the CZ 453 Varmint, Weatherby's Mark XXII's and some Anschutz.

The Mark II only come in 22LR & 17M2. The 93R17 is the 17HMR.

The 17M2 is the 22LR Stinger case necked down to .172 & the 17HMR is the 22 magnum case necked down to .172.

HTH

I have a CZ 452 in 22 magnum that I couldn't be happier with. It's VERY accurate and easy on the eyes. The factory trigger isn't too bad either :D .

Well my brother has a Marlin Mach 2 that shoots very nicely expecially after we did the trigger. I've been reading so many good things about the CZ as well so I think I am leaning that way. At some point I will be adding a Weatherby Mark XXII to my collection but for now I think...man so many choices...I think I am going to go with a CZ 453 chambered in .17 HMR, with the fluted barrel and single stage set trigger. I figured my LRVP needed anther companion on my pairie dog trip this summer :wtg: !

I haven't placed at order yet so my decision isn't final :chin: !

Glen - what is the stainless Marlin chambered in? That looks just like my brothers!

I'm getting a .17 HMR for sure! If I can get a CZ 453 Varmint to shoot like this I'll be extremely happy!

I would be happy with that group too. My Marlin will do 3/4" @ 100yds quite frequently & once in a while I can get a 5/8" group from her.

Matt: My CZ 452 Varmint in 17 HMR will routinely punch 9/16" - 3/4" 100 yard groups using Hornady 17gr V-Max if the wind cooperates. The only mods I did to mine was install an Eric Brooks trigger, and glass bed the action, 2" of barrel at the chamber end, and free-float the rest.

It's pure death on PD's and ground squirrels inside of 250 yards. With the new CZ 453's set trigger, you'll be in heaven. I've owned Marlin bolt rimfires too, but I think the CZ is way ahead in terms of quality, materials, design engineering and overall feel. The CZ's feel and look like a mini centerfire, and not like a rimfire rifle. (I'm NOT bad-mouthing the Marlin rimfires, no way, as all the ones I've owned shot very well, but the CZ is really a step up IMHO.)

Here's mine in the varmint patch:

Rick - That is a sweet looking set up you have there!

I'm looking forward to seeing one of the CZ's. So far it's I've only seen pictures on the internet. I'm hoping they will have some at the gun show in my area later on in February. I think the set trigger on the 453 is going to be sweet :wtg: . I have a buddy that has a set trigger on his AR and it's amazing. I just about ordered it this weekend while I was snowed in but then my laptop started giving up on me and my fiance hinting pretty hard that I should get the honeymoon trip book! After those two purchases, it didn't leave many funds for the .17hmr! My bonus and tax return are right around the corner thought!! :chin:

The nice thing about the HMR, is that it doesn't seem to matter if it's a $175 Savage or a $1500 Anschutz, they all shoot extremely well. My old blued Marlin (2002 vintage 8) ) will AVERAGE .6" at 100 yards with the 17gr. VMax loads. It's not as catholic as the Savage I had, which shot EVERYTHING right at 1" @100, but it strongly favors the VMax loads, so that's what I feed it. The Savage was more forgiving of other ammo, but the Marlin is a real hotrock with it's favored stuff. Neither are expensive rifles, but certainly shoot like they are. The HMR is a mighty fine little round, in ANY rifle.

My Savage had a horrible trigger  , yesterday, I helped a buddy of mine put a Sharpshooter trigger in that rifle (I gave it to him a couple of years ago, because he NEEDED to have an HMR, everyone does :D ). Man, if I'd known that that Sharpshooter trigger was so good, I'd have kept the little rascal  Huge difference made, lemme tell ya! The newer Savages, with Accutriggers, should be almost as nice.
