It's been awhile since I have purchased a new toy and I have to opportunity to purchase a older Ruger 77/22 .22 wmr from a gentleman at work. Anybody have an issue with these fine ruger rifles? I already have 2- .22lr's, and a .17 hmr. I'd like a .22 mag for the heavier grain bullets but if I don't like how she shoots she'll turn into a hmr.

Any input is appreciated.

turn it into a 17 machII instead of a hummer. Then you don't have to get anything but the replacement barrel.....

Maybe im missing something but if savageboy gets a 22mag wouldnt it be easier to turn it to a hmr then a mach ii. Anyway back on topic. I have not shot a 22 mag that has any accuracy comparable to a 17

IMHO, if wind or even breezes are an issue where you will be using the rifle, personally my choice would be the 22mag. I do shoot a hummer, and even in a light cross breeze, I have seen bullet drift around 4 feet, at 150 to 200 yards. Those tiny bullets just don't buck the wind. I don't own a 22 mag, but I would think the heaver bullets will perform better under these conditions, even if a little slower velocity. If a new rifle is in my future, it will be a 22 mag, and I would love a model 77.

I have plenty of centerfire rifles to buck the wind. I guess the only reason I'm considering buying it is the price is right. And a ruger 77 would be a nice addition to my safe. :D

Took my buddy ground squirrel shooting on Sunday. He had a 77/22mag and it did great! Personally I like the 17 HMR, but if the price is right I think it's a great rifle.
