I don't know that you can buy one for less than $400, but based on my experience you can't beat a CZ for quality and value.....

+1 for the CZ's.

Out if the box accuracy and performance is hard to beat. I have had quite a few over the years and they have all been awesome .

Maybe something from Savage? I have a Taurus knock-off of the old Win 62, can't afford the real deal. For plain old open sights, it is extremely accurate with CCI Mini Mag ammo. Rossi made them before Taurus, never shot one but, I have heard they were a big Thumbs Down.

I can not say it is the most accurate, but the Ruger 10-22 can sure be made to shoot very well, with a barrel upgrade and some trick items, you can put one together very well for under $400.00 or you can spend more, as time goes by. Initial cost is around $250.00 for starters in most shops/gunstores. Bill K :)

No doubt there are more after-market parts for the 10-22 than any other rimfire made. Be prepared that a new one, straight out of the box, only has one component you will want to save. That would be the action, and it will need some polishing. When selecting the new barrel, make sure you get a standard chamber if you want to shoot the Stinger type ammo. That being said, they are super easy to work on and the choices are nearly endless.

The most versatile .22 is the Ruger 10/22. $189-250 on sale. You should say for what purpose you plan on using it. If it is for a little bit of everything, I would still say Ruger 10/22, because you can customize it yourself to suit any purpose. head over to rimfirecentral forum for the most information about all kinds of rimfire related topics.

I assume you're limiting the selection to sporter rifles? If not, that opens a whole new can of worms.

??????? So does he have a CZ, or a Kimber? If you need accuracy out of the box, on a budget, what about Savage? Anyone here using them? Savage accuracy in centerfire rifles seems to be widley supported. There were several things I did not like about the Savage 12 FLV in 204R that I had. However, accuracy was outstanding.
