9mm Luger and Longshot

I have heard of people loading 9mm Luger with Hodgdon Longshot. I'm a duck hunter so I have reserves of Longshot. Anyone have any experience with Longshot for 9mm reloading??? I have about 500-600 cases to reload.

Have not. I have found, so far, that HP 38 seems to be the most accurate powder in my 9mm. Bill K :)

I absolutely WILL NOT carry handloads for personal defense. But, I will use them for the range.

Neither will I Skipper. Only good factory loaded ammo, that is accurate in my Carry weapons. Just gives one less rebuttal, if a person every has to defend his use of deadly force. Bill K :)

Have not tried Longshot, but for shotgun powder in the 9mm, I've heard from many good sources that Titegroup is the favored powder for both 9mm and .45 ACP. I just laid in a big jug of it, so I'm hoping it works as advertised. Winchester WST is another dual purpose shotgun/handgun powder too.

Nice to be able to use a powder for both venues.

I wanted to try Titegroup but I have so much Longshot I just decided to give it a try. I'm currently recapping about 600 - 9MM cases. I'm getting ready to fire for effect.

Well then, let us know how it shakes out. Good to have another powder to choose from that's readily available everywhere.

Spent the bulk of the day reloading those 9MM cases and riding my motorcycle. Don't know which one I enjoyed most. I can't wait to go unload them at the range next week.

Nice Skipper! Nothing like a good day in the reloading room, but a good ride is probably more fun. :D Looks like you've got a proper setup there and have hit it hard. How many rounds do you do at a time? Partial prep then load, or all at once?

If you want to spend more time riding, but still have all your handgun ammo loaded and ready for use, then you might want to consider moving from a single stage press to a progressive like a Dillon RL550.....up to 500 rounds/hour. A loaded round in the try at every pull of the press handle. I can't believe how long I procrastinated about getting one, now kick my own arse for waiting so long.

I'm also loading 9mm at present, these pics were taken recently when I was cranking out .45 ACP:

All my precision rifle ammo is still done on my single stage press, but for handgun ammo, nothing beats a progressive.

I've found that if I've got a couple of .50 cal ammo cans filled with bulk handloads, I tend to shoot much more, so I get in more practice knowing I can reproduce the spent ammo in less than an hour. And a shout-out to Dillon CS too, unbelievable generosity and service.

Once you've had a chance to see how Longshot does in your nine, let us know. Good to have alternative powder choices.

I don't normally let 600 rounds stack up before I reload. I finished all 600+ yesterday in about 2 sessions. The ride was how I let my arm rest in between sessions. Speaking of rides:

I have thought of getting a progressive press but I'll wait till they have one that tumbles, trims, primer pockets, etc.

Nice. That's what we used to call "scooter therapy". :D Yours sure looks more comfortable than my last Harley.

I saw this discussion on another forum today and thought of your Longshot post.
