I have 3, 4, 5, and 6 inch 1911s now and have started thinking about 3.5 and a 4.25 inch guns.
I changed out the long trigger for a short carbon/titanium STI, and the ambi thumb safety for a left side only Ed Brown. I also swapped out the sear and hammer pins for 'round end' pins.
I gutted the ILS mainspring housing parts and installed standard parts with a 19 pound mainspring (23 is standard).
Since I have an Ed Brown sear jig and a set of stones, I did a trigger job on the gun and stoned the trigger track while I was at it. I also installed a Nowlin sear spring. The trigger breaks ice clean at 3.5 pounds.
Steel firing pins and oversize firing pin stops are on order from EGW for both my Springers.
I nearly forgot. I have old eyes and the plain black target sights on this gun were giving me fits. As an experiment, I put a drill start in the front sight and filled it with white-out. It is much easier for me to pick up, so I will be ordering a fiber optic front sight from Dawson Precision.
After 400 rounds through the gun, I'm beginning to hit what I'm shooting at.
It's a fun gun to shoot. The recoil is so gradual as to be nearly plush. However, it still can't compete with my Sig GSR for accuracy. That Sig is amazing. Even the Springfield Champion I bobtailed is easier to hit with, but I think that is because of the three dot sights.
