Crimson Trace Grip Saga Comes to an End

Crimson Trace sent me a replacement set of grips quite a while ago and I could not get enough windage or elevation adjustment to get the point of impact and point of aim where I wanted them with that new set of grips. They asked me to send the grips in. I did, they sent them back and I installed them and did a rought sight in process inside my house. That was back in May. I finally got a chance to get out and shoot my S&W Model 686 in .357 Magnum this morning during a fire forming session with my new .17 Tactical.

Anyway, I shot two shots from a rest and they were about 3 inches high, but right on for windage. I adjusted the elevation screw to shoot a bit lower and shot one shot. That one was about a half inch below where I wanted it. I adjusted the elevation screw one more time and the point of impact was right where I wanted it. Now, if that big old hungry cougar comes after me when I'm out with a mouth call screaming like a dying rabbit, I have my revolver all sighted in and ready for the old cat. I just hope he gives me time to get my gun out!!!

The fit of the grips still leaves a lot to be desired. There are still huge gaps between the grips and the metal, but I guess I'll have to live with that if I want to use the Crimson Trace Laser Grips. I have to say that Crimson Trace has been pretty good about sending out replacement grips and repairing the last set they sent, so I'm a somewhat happy camper now.

Silverfox, glad to hear that you are ready for action now.

How far out can you see the laser in the bright sunlight? I put a red dot scope on the 357 that I used to compete with as a fun gun now. I think I will try to take a coyote up close with it. With both eyes open it might be a good chance I could get lucky on one.

Sidewinderwa--I apologize for not getting back to you earlier on you question. For me, seeing that little red dot on something depends the color of the object/animal I'm aiming at. I had some of those black Birchwood Casey Shoot-N-C Targets and I had to drag the red dot down from the white backing paper onto the black target to even have a chance of seeing the red dot. The longest shots I was taking were 10 yards and 15 yards. I'm going to try some 25 yard shots when I get some time to piddle around.

I don't think the red dot is going to be a lot of help for me if a cougar is approaching me and looking to eat me for lunch. That's why I also practice with the open sights!!!
