Well, here is the start of the 6.5x47 Lapua. I just got the stock from McMillan. It is the A1-3 with 45% Black, 30% Dark Grey, and 25% White. I will put more pics up as I get more put together! Whole rifle should be completed by June/July. A list of parts can be seen on the other post I made regarding this. Keep checking for updates.

That's a very nice looking stock.

This stock is the third generation sniper rifle stock. Interestingly, I built my .204 on it and it does really well on the squirrel field as shown below:

This is a M700 action with a Lilja stainless barrel.

I'm real fond of that particular McMillan stock. Critter recommended I get my .308 glass bedded into the McMillan by Rick Freudenberg, a first class rifle builder in Everett Washington. It's tight as a drum several years later. Really good all-around field stock for a precision rifle:

jdfranc938 - I think you're building what will become a very good rifle. Should be a winner for targets, varmints, or even deer size game if you so choose. Please keep us posted on the build. Looking forward to seeing the end results - with that stock, it's going to be a looker for sure!

Regards, Guy

Thanks for the input guys! My plan for this rifle is varmints and deer, and of course targets. Apparently Bartlein has an 8 month waiting time right now. So since I ordered the barrel in early October, I am hoping I will receive it by late April - early May. But as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait. The barrel will be the 8 twist 26" Light Varmint contour in SS and will be bead blasted by my gunsmith to have a nice matte finish. The scope has been ordered (Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25 LR/T TMR reticle) and will be here this week. So I am hoping that the build will be finished by June but I don't wanna rush anything. And I promise I will post pics as the process continues!

If you don't mind Kreiger barrels, give them they might have one available. Like Bartlein, they are single-point cut barrels. I called Kreiger to order an 8-twist 5R in 6mm and to my pleasent surprise :wtg: , they had one. Should be here next week or the week after. Ya 'never know...

I made a call to Bartlein today to see the status of my barrel. It is in the shop now and should be done by February. Got the scope in last night. Piece by piece it's all coming together!

Here is a snapshot of what the glass is! Already ordered the sunshade and Alumina flip caps

Well, I just received my custom 700 project. As if you couldn't tell from the title of this post, I went with the 6.5 x 47 Lapua. I'm still breaking the barrel in so I don't have any real data yet, but once I do I will post it. But, this baby shoots like a dream so far!! :D
Parts List:
Remington 700 Short Action receiver
Bolt fluted by Kampfeld Custom
Blueprinted by my gunsmith
Bartlein SS barrel finished to 26" with an 8 twist
Gunsmith did a great job of blasting the barrel and "scotch-briting" it for a nice stainless matte finish
McMillan A1-3 stock with 45% black/ 30% dark grey/ 25% white
Tubbs SpeedLock Firing Pin
Holland recoil lug
Williams complete bottom metal
Engraving done by Kampfeld Custom
Jewell trigger
Seamless muzzle brake
Leupold Mark 4 base
Leupold Mark 4 30mm rings
Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50 M1 with TMR
with Alumina flip up caps

Sorry it's a little blurry... When I get around to it, I will take a better picture!

Thank you! I'm very happy with the way it turned out!
Well, I have SMK 107's and 120's but I'm probably not going to be using that much for deer haha. I bought some Hornady A-Max 120's and some Berger VLD Hunting in 130. I will probably hunt with either of those 2, depending on which performs better. And Im sure the ground hogs won't mind either! hahaha

Looks like a precision machine!

Post your load results when you get a chance. I shoot in metallic silhouette competition and the 6.5x47L is becoming a popular choice for that sport. I am going with a 6.5 Creedmoor instead but very similar ballistics to your 6.5x47.

Cheers!

I finally managed to get time to break the barrel in... it was pretty effortless with the bartlein barrel! The first and only load I've used was a low dose of H4350 at 38.5 grains pushing the SMK 120's. It put 5 shots into a very small ragged hole at 100. I didn't have time to measure it with calipers (sorry). Work has been pretty time consuming and I really haven't had time to test any of the other bullets yet. But hopefully over labor day weekend, when I'm back on the farm, I will be able to test a bit more and get some chrony info too.

Also, the new Cooper JSR in 22LR shoots like a DREAM (surprise, surprise)! Using CCI mini mags, it's like a laser beam. Single hole 3 shot groups. It is so well balanced and so crisp that where ever the crosshairs sit, is where the impact will be. It leaves me speechless everytime I shoot it. I will try to post some pics of those groups too! Too many new toys and WAY too little time! :wall:

Nice looking piece of hardware. Who/Where is the muzzle brake from?

Thx

Thanks! The muzzle brake is a custom build by the gunsmith. But there are a bunch out there that look similar... Painkiller, Holland's new design, and there is one more that was real similar but the name escapes me at the moment!

Thanks. I looked up the "Painkiller" brake and it has a unique look to it.
