Cooper's Shoot!

On Day One of our recent ground squirrel adventure, I put up a 100 yard sight-in target to get my Cooper Model 21 Varmint in .223 dialed in and reset the scopes settings to "zero" prior to cutting loose on the rats. Once I got the POI adjusted, I fired three shots for effect to see how she would group my pet .223 load. I was not disappointed.
Considering I was on my field bench with a breeze blowing about the hills, I now know that "Rosa" is capable of "Minute of Skippy's Head" no problemo. These rifles plain shoot!
Next on the list is a Jard trigger for this girl. The factory trigger is set as light as I can get it at 1.3 lbs....much too heavy for precision bench work. She will get a Jard 8 ounce unit very soon, as a few squirrels escaped launch because I was squeezing away waiting for the sear to break when the rat bailed down his hole. Precison triggers are a must for this stuff.
Now we're back home, and that pile of brass is just sitting there waiting to be processed. I sure like UN-loading them better!

Glen....truth be known, when we first got set up, I was excited to get going on Skippy, fired two rounds and missed two rats at an easy 225 yards.....figured out then that "DUUUHHH", I forgot to re-zero the rifle after putting on the 6.5-20X in preparation for the shoot.
Once she was dialed in, it was "bang-thwop!", "bang-thwop" almost every time. I smiled alot, Skippy did not........ Gads I love this stuff!

Yea, Rick wont admit it but 3 in 500 is about his average!
The only thing is it's three misses in 500!

Ray: Yep, we all like rifles that shoot, some just seem to shoot better than others, and this Cooper appears to be one of them. Now I'm saddled with the "Cooper Curse", meaning one just won't do. The madness continues!
You got the EORFS right my friend. Funny how a simple mention at breakfast one morning started this entire Raptor Feeding thing going. I've got some real characters in my crew to be sure.
Our proud emblem:
It's great when some lady will stop us in a store and comment how nice it is that we feed the raptors.....until she learns we feed them with rifles! "That's horrible!" has been one of the responses, but hey, those cool birds gotta eat too, right? Liberals....can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em.....

Raptors.......yep I like to feed them here in Pa too. The last wood chuck I shot I slid him down his hole. That was a Sat, on Sunday the farmer call me and asked if I got any chucks out of his one field?
I said yes! Why? He said he had a big bird with a white head having a picnic on the chuck I had shot. I asked I if he got an pics to share and he said no. Rick.....on your comment......."It's great when some lady will stop us in a store and comment how nice it is that we feed the raptors" You should have asked for a donation! To help with rising cost of ammo. Ha ha
Later and thanks for all your replies.
Wish I was there with you and your friend.

Thats funny. Hey, not only are we feeding the raptors but we're also feeding the coyote's (and snakes (just like Indiana Jones, I hate snakes) and wild cats. And even more, in my little experience of rat hunting, I've discovered that the rats are just like politicians, they eat their own!

Yeah, we feed a lot of the "raptors" out here in sunny Alberta. I think I will definitely have to start a "chapter" out here labeled as the "Alberta Raptor Feeding Society". This winters project will have to include a logo, similar to the EORFS, and then get them on some T-shirts and probably a flag as well. They'll make a great "conversation piece" out in public.

Gube: Right on....I like where this is going. Maybe, just maybe sometime in the distant future (if we still have our guns...) there will be chapters all over the U.S. and Canada. THEN we rat shooters will be recognized for the good we do feeding the raptors, coyotes and other critters that thrive on carrion. Hey, they gotta eat too, right?
I can see it now, guys wearing their shirts to church, at the store, at the prom, cruising about town being well dressed in their Raptor Feeding Society t-shirts, then foxy girls wearing them with the sleeves and midriff cut off....... there could be no end to sightings of this nature. Soon the entire continent would be aware of just how important we rat shooters are, and how much we contribute to the economy! Hey, as a non-profit, we could attain tax-exempt status, build a HQ with a high fence to keep liberals out, and start our own rifle cult devoted to raptor feeding, accurate rifles, and the gradulal elimination of liberals and wacko democrat gun-haters.
A perfect world......I can dream too, right?
