I have a book on dates of manufacture on order (for about a month) from impactguns.com, but I know that Savageshooters.com has a sticky for that. Of course you need to be a paying member to use it, which I am not.

The Savage 99 holds a fond spot in my heart. As a kid I remember the hunting camp full of them my mom, her sister and mother carried them as well as my Uncle and grandfather there were 250s,243s,and 300s, My mom's was stolen it was a beauty a 250 but she inherited her mothers 250. Which she shot a cow elk this year with my mom is 77 years old. She has a Remington 740 in 243 but prefers the Savage 99 in 250. A Rifle way ahead of its time.

Thanks for the replies. Yep I grew up around a lot of 99's . My dad has/used a 99PE in 308 win for many years. It has a silver colored receiver with engraving on both sides. A mountain lion on one and an elk on the other. I found one like it doing an online search and they wanted...................5K for it in the box unfired.
Thanks again.

This is the Savage collector's forum on the 24hourcampfire. You could register there and ask, they are usually pretty helpful, and they know their stuff, too.
