Red pad/tang safety. Believe some had Douglas barrels.

My old circa 1980 Ruger Tang Safety Swift will shoot the 55gr NBT into boring groups that run right at 3/8" almost always. Good enough for 500 yard rockchucks.
Not sure about brand of barrel during that period, but I'm not complaining a bit about it's accuracy.

I had a few during the "bad" barrel years... Never could get them to be inaccurate

I have a tang safety M77 in .270Win. Shoots right at 1/2 to 3/4 at 100yds. My problem is the foe rend warped and I can't find a new stock for it. I guess they quit making them. What once shot nice little triangles now strings horizontally.

My Rugger M77 in 30-06 will consistently shoot 3 quick shots from a cold barrel in a quarter size group at 200 yards from a cold barrel. The down side to this rifle is there isn't a lot of aftermarket stuff out there for them.

Bitter Clinger, Look at Richard's Microfit Stocks... I think almost all of their stocks can be had for the Tang Safety M77. You could also go to the Closeout Bargain List and scroll down the list of stocks on the shelf that were either ordered and never paid for not bought for whatever reason.. there are quite a few M77 (Old) Long Actions on their list... I was looking at them for my '86 30-06 but ended up trading it for a Mk2 .270WSM instead.

Boyd's makes a few models for the Tang Safety as well.
