Where Are The 17 Hornet Rifles ?

Post by tuck2 »

Last December I purchased some 17 Hornet ammo and have yet to find a Ruger or CZ 17 Hornet rifle. Did Ruger and CZ stop making them ? I now also have RCBS 17 H reloading dies, bullets, powder, primers, brass, a 4-16 AO scope and a rifle sling. The sporting goods store I deal with has not found a wholesaler that has 17 Hornet rifles I like.

I ask myself the same question with respect to the 17 Fireball. When found, they aren't cheap.

Good luck!

A CZ 527 Varmint 17 Hornet rifle is on a truck going through Nebr yesterday Dec 27. I found it at a store in Marion ,VA where they shipped it by USPS on Dec 13 2013. Should be able to pick it up at the Cabelas store in Sidney Nebr on Monday Dec 30. This has ben the longest time, a year I have ever tried to get a firearm. I have a scope, mounts, sling, reloading dies, ammo, brass, bullets, primers, and powder on hand for it. After I get it sited in I m going to see what a little 20 Gr bullet will do to some jack rabbits..

Been one of those Green Mountain Rugers gathering dust for months at a local gun store. I've been tempted every time I see it, but an unfortunate experience with the Savage 25 HH has soured me (fairly or not) towards the .17 Hornet.

It was the rifle, not the round. I had one of the early .17 HH Savages that was basically junk and wouldn't shoot; I gladly traded it back to the dealer for a .22 Hornet. The CZs and the Rugers seem to be accurate in .17 Hornet. Only problem is, I have .221 FB rifles now that I can easily convert to .17 Fireball (or .20 VT). Guess I figured the .17 Hornet would be just as quiet as the .22 Hornet for shooting close to developed areas; to my ears its report is just as loud as my Fireballs. Nice little round, though not my cup of tea at this point.

Last week I was shooting some sub 1/2 inch 100 yard groups when siteing in my new CZ Mdl 527 Varmint 17 Hornet rifle. That was with Hornady 20 Gr bullet ammo. The other good news is that MIdsouth is shipping five boxes of ammo I ordered March 2013.

Just priced the CZ American this past Sunday. At $640 I won't have one anytime soon.

My CZ 527 Varmint rifle cost me $ 670 , that was the lowest price I found. I never checked on the going price of a Ruger 17 Hornet rifle. Over the years I v had good luck with Ruger bolt action rifles and have a 22 RF, 204 Ruger, 22-250, 220 Swift, and 257 Roberts rifles. If one of the local stores had a Ruger 17 Hornet I would have gotten it.
