Re: Cooper's Shoot!
Ken....it's never too late! This Cooper is the most accurate out of the box rifle I've ever owned. The bedding was/is perfect, barrel floated properly, crown perfect....no wonder they shoot so well, even for a semi-custom production rifle.
I'm considering another now, this time in a .20 caliber (maybe a .20 VarTarg?). These rifles are sweeeeet!
Gube: I'm not sure your neighbors would appreciate Ken's acronym, but it sure made me smile.

This is what Diane & I see after about 30 minutes of showing up in a groundhog field. It's almost like they know my truck!!
So as you can see we're doing our best here to help.

Glen: Glad to see you're not only doing your part, but have the local birds trained quite well too. Every little bit helps. We can't leave ALL the moribund critters for the coyotes......birds gotta eat too!
I'd say they DO know your truck!

YEP!! They just set there patiently & wait it out with us.
Honestly that is probably more of a lucky photo opportunity than anything else but I'll work with whatever Mother Nature gives us.

Soon the entire continent would be aware of just how important we rat shooters are, and how much we contribute to the economy! Hey, as a non-profit, we could attain tax-exempt status, build a HQ with a high fence to keep liberals out, and start our own rifle cult devoted to raptor feeding, accurate rifles, and the gradulal elimination of liberals and wacko democrat gun-haters.
A perfect world......I can dream too, right?

Gube: Shoot me a PM with your address so we can send you the Royalty Invoice for using the graphic logo. 'Cause I used to be Canadian, we'll give you "special rates" for the use of the logo......
Because of the currency exchange difference, you can pay us in 204 brass or bullets......see what nice guys we are?

I would think more along the lines that this would be considered as "free advertising", therefore a one time payment of a BR pivot shipped straight over to me would sufficeRick in Oregon wrote:Gube: Shoot me a PM with your address so we can send you the Royalty Invoice for using the graphic logo. Re: Cooper's Shoot!
Gube: Well bud, if I still had control of the BR Pivot, you as well as most of our forum buddies would get the "good ole boy" 204um discount. But I am glad to see that Battenfield/Midway is now able to sell them for less than I had to charge. My costs for materials and labor near the end of my run were making me actually feel guilty for charging what I had to in order to make a profit at all. Those babies, especially the Lite were quite expensive to manufacture.
Your bench turned out quite well though, and it appears the Alberta rats don't seem to notice they're being dispatched from a home-grown version of the BRP.
My only complaint is that I wish our little buggers would stay above ground longer. But if they did, I'd be broke!

Oh sure I get tempted on a 20 Vartarg when going through the Cooper shop and now you guys throw Coopers all over my screen. You are feeding my illness. I think I need a support group.
Nice rifle Rick. Will you be my sponsor for the support group? Can I fondle your rifle if I pick you?

Re: Cooper's Shoot!
I'm happy to see the enthusiasm Rick and Capt and others have for your Coopers. It only took you how many years and how many dollars to get the same satisfaction as many of us have with our Savages? Oops, did I say something controversial?

Re: Cooper's Shoot!
Hotshot: In this world, there are Learjets and hang gliders. BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Volkswagons and Yugos. They'll all get you to the store, but for me at least, it's more fun in a Porsche. Then there's Coopers, Kimbers, Remchesters and Savages. They all shoot, but some offer more than just accuracy. There is something for everyone. Me, I'd rather have an accurate rifle that has clean lines and reflects quality workmanship, materials, engineering and asthetics over one that is in my eye ugly, cheaply made, even if it happens to be accurate.
I'll freely admit that Salvage has come a long way in the quality department, but 50+ years of rifledom have shown me that the particular brand in question although servicealbe and accurate, is still a long way from a thing of beauty (to me), and will always have the stimga (to me) of being low-end quality and asthetics.
Controversial? No, just personal bias based on a lifetime of owning and shooting rifles. I prefer saving until I can afford what I want instead of jumping to buy the lesser quality item just to have it. If you love your Savages, fine, they're just not for me. As I said before, there's something for everyone, and I consider the money well spent, as what I hold in my hands pleases me greatly...no stamped sheet metal or corner-cutting. Besides, the last Salvage I held in my hands just felt like a club to me, plain and simple.....not so with a Cooper. There are many brands of rifles........Remember, something for everyone.
Sidebar: This all reminds me of my drag racing days. A guy would show up with what appeared to be a complete POS, but waxed everyone at the Friday night drags. Body and paint were complete toast, but under the hood was a rompin' gut-bustin' balanced and blueprinted rat motor pumping out horsepower all out of proportion to what it appeared to be. The guys with the glass-smooth lacquer paint on their Chevy II's with fiberglass tilt front ends and tube axles just stood and stared at the POS in the winners circle.
I'll gladly spend more to get both performance AND asthetics in the same package, thank you. No controversy, just personal preference. You'll just have to try harder to create good controversy. (Okay, flame suit all zipped up..... )

Re: Cooper's Shoot!
Okay, I'll stir the coals with a friendly spirit. After all, I'm not from Texas.
I, too, am a lifelong shooter. I have competed in small bore, high power, sillouette, trap, skeet and any kind of turkey shoot that comes along. I love shooting. I've had and still own many "beautiful" factory and custom guns including rifles and shotguns. I have a Sako with a Kreiger barrel and a pre 64 mod 70 that sports a Lilja in 220 Swift that are among my faves. I've owned 40X Rems, Kimbers, Brownings in rifles and some very exotic shotguns that cost bunches of money and looked real pretty.
Upon your advice, my working rifles are now all equipped with VX-III glass, I use a Leica range finding bino, I load with a Dillon 550, and I keep an 08 Chevy pickup around just to go shootin' (don't even drive it 4000 miles a year).
The point is I'm not too cheap to step up and buy good equipment!
To me, the Savages that I own are not ugly. The economy is appreciated but not really my consideration. I love a rifle that shoots accurately. Mine have all been shooters right out of the box. But, the best-greatest-most loved feature of all is I can do all my own gunsmithing with these rifles. I can rebarrel in 20 minutes. I can try a new cartridge for a couple hundred bucks, I can get parts anywhere(like a small block chevy). You wouldn't believe what I can do to an accu-trigger.
In my drag racing days(early 70's) my 1967 4-4-2 was both nice looking and fast. That's just the way I see my Savages.
P.S. I do like Coopers and I might own one someday, after I get enough Savages.
