Anyone still shooting a 222?

Post by TEXAS222 »

I rarely see anyone talking about the 222 Rem. Just wondering why. I guess all the newer cartridges have made it sort of obsolete but I still love the triple deuce. Anyone still shooting it? Jim D

No good tool, is ever obsolete......

Sure, there might be bigger, better, faster choices out there, but NONE have the 'classic factor' going on for them, quite like the deuce.....

I have a Sako Rhiimaki heavy barrel that I shoot quite often. It's a nice gun and super accurate but heavy to pack around very far. i have chronographed it along side a .223 and there's only about 100 fps difference.

Soon as I get a chance I'm gonna tweak the loads I tried last month before all the wind & rain showed up.

I'm shooting Dad's old Stevens .222 that he bought new back in the early 60's I believe it was. :D

Soon as I can get rid of an AR I bought (but haven't had the desire to shoot), I'm gonna hunt down a CZ 527 Lux, a Remington 700 or 722, or maybe a Tikka in .222.

I love the Triple Deuce. Just something about it.

I have a Howa made S&W 1500 Varmint that has done some good work on PDs in the past.
Also have one of those engraved Remington 700s with a sporter barrel that is a little laser.

Seriously one of my most favorite rounds ever. :D

Yes but not as much as i should. My grandfather left it to me so i treat it like a glass vase.
Mohawk 600 i really should take it on a pd trip it has had its share of coyotes and other critters.

TK, you do realize this post is just over five years old, right?

If you plan to sell your CZ, then it would be a good idea to create a fresh post stating that with pics of the rifle.

Rem 788 in 222 with Timney trigger performs well for me. Glass bedded. Sporter barrel.
Used for general hunting...rabbits, foxes, hates and cats.
