Re-Chambering a Cooper

I have a Cooper mdl 38 Varminter in .22 Hornet, and I would like to re-chamber it to .22 K Hornet. Does Cooper do this kind of gunsmithing service on their rifles, or do I need to find an independent gunsmith? If so, does anyone have recommendations?

Numerous gunsmiths around. Adam Bentley posts and lurks. also many use Pac-Nor and Bob Green. Bill K

Scott, a simple email or call to Cooper should confirm that they will indeed rechamber to K-Hornet for a modest cost, a bit more if you're not the original purchaser.

Got a response from Cooper. They said they would re-barrel the rifle, but not re-chamber.

I wonder why?

Same issue for me. I believe it's because they can't attest to the integrity of the used barrel on several fronts. They won't even give you back the old barrel because they don't know what it will be used for. That one kind of got my goat. I needed a new tomato stake.

I f they won't return the old barrel, that solves my problem. I'll find another 'smith to do the re-chambering.

I'd confirm that with Cooper now, but they would not send back my old one a year or 2 ago.

And they wouldn't return my 17 Rem barrel when I switched to a 20 VT 8 months ago.
