Savage was originally supposed to release the rifles back in January. They have changed the release date 4 times since then. At this point its anyone's guess as to when they will actually hit the market. If anyone is interested in having a custom rifle built please contact me. I bought a reamer a few weeks back and had a custom rifle built. I can refer anyone that's interested to the gunsmith that did the work.

Saw on another site where the C-Zs delivery date has now been moved back to late-Jan. 2013. No thanks. What is so freaking hard about hanging a .17 cal. barrel on an existing action, or am I missing something??? :x
This thing has been a marketing disaster.

I agree 100%. It would be interesting to find out what the real hold up is...

Savage posted on their Facebook that they are now shipping the model 25 in .17 Hornet in "great numbers". So if you want one they are now available.

After much outrage over the way Savage (and C-Z) have jerked potential buyers around over the release of the .17 Hornet, guess I'll have to eat a little crow and admit that I just bought one  - a Savage "Walking Varminter". Was actually looking for a .22H but the dealer had one of these left and the price was right (<$450) so I gave it a "shot". Wouldn't win any beauty contests, but initial shooting proved mostly positive: before darkness overtook my sight-in session, I was able to put 3 shots within 1/2" in a horizontal plane, with no barrel cooling in-between. (75 yards and a stiff breeze.) This was after picking it up off the cheap plastic rest each shot to cock it because of a stiff bolt movement (loaded). Kinda surprised, in a good way, but it didn't come without a dose of "Savage-itis": in addition to the aforementioned bolt problem, had one light firing pin strike out of 11 shots fired; might have been a piece of metal shaving or dirt, but I'm lining up shipping back to Savage just in case. Will get some pics including a real group up soon.

Before savage started shipping their rifles I heard that they were have "feeding issue;" not sure if anyone else heard the same thing?

I stopped in at my local Dealer and He said they (Savage .17 Hornets) were all on back order, asked about the CZ 527 .17 Hornets and He couldn't get one from them....I talked with a Friend of mine and He had a CZ .17 Hornet on order from his Dealer? So I'm not sure what's up with that...might just skip it and get a different caliber instead?
