your fierarms collection / favorite gun

Post by chicoredneck »

i thought it might be fun to list/share your collection of fierarms.
my meager collection:
Model 99 300 savage
ruger m77 mark2 25-06
rock river arms ar15 16" barrel
saber defense 204 heavy bench/target model
marlin model 60 22 - the old model with the longer barrel and tube
glock 17
springfield xd45 tactical model

i enjoy shooting the saber defense the most. my favorite rifle in the collection though is probably my old model 99 300 savage. most game taken is with either the rock river or the ruger m77.

Having a large collection of guns has never been a big concern of mine, so if something sits unused for very long, it goes down the road. With my recent acquisition of a .204, I think I have my shooting needs covered with a 3 rifle arsenal:
Savage model 99 Featherweight in .308
Sako model 75 in .375 H&H
Ruger #1V Stainless in .204

The Savage is my sentimental favorite as my dad passed that down to me in the mid-70's (and has been responsible for an enormous number of deer, elk, and coyote kills) and we still talk about the many hunts and places it's been. It will never go down the road. The Sako is my favorite "do everything" rifle and is what I carry most of the time now while chasing deer or anything larger. It's probably here to stay too. The Ruger #1 is the new kid on the block -- time will tell if it, and this caliber, are here for the long haul.
My greatest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell all my toys for what she thinks I paid for them...

Since I started chasing little Skippy after my retirement a couple of years ago I've gone thru a bunch of different ones but right now here is the team.

Savage 93R 17HMR stainless action (2) since so often noone has one to shoot and I got a hustle on the pair
Weatherby XX11 17HMR most accurate and smoothest 17 I've ever handled
Savage 12 LRPV .223. I own 2 and one is being converted to a 6BR soon
Savage 12 LRPV .204
Ruger1V .204
Ruger Super Redhawk 44mag
Taurus Judge .45 colt/410 just to party with ole rattler and it works!!!!
Benelli Sport 2 in 12 guage
Sears Roebuck 12 guage pump (I think by Higgins) 1st bird gun I ever bought when I was 15 years old.

My current rifle collection consists of
Ruger 10/22
Marlin 17hmr
T/C Encore (2506) for now.
Savage 12FV single shot in 204

I would have to say right now my favorite gun is the 17 hmr. But come summer time it could become the 204. But that 17 is fun to shoot anytime.

Below: 3.2-17x44/58 with 30mm tube and MOA scale and EREK in a Cooper something or other.

Model 70 WSM with cheap plastic stock and 3.2-17x44/58 Super High Res with M40 style knobs and Horus Reticle. Scope has since been replaced by SN-3 3.8-22x58 in 35mm Tube and MOA EREK and MOA Scale. Again both features have same units, something rarely seen except on European Scope. Barrel is three groove lilja, trigger is two stage Jewell.
