My 1st Wildcat

I broke down and gathered all the info I could and jumped in the water feet first. I have everything in line ready to go to make a 17 Tac.
I, at one time would have said NO WAY to a 17cal, but this Tac sure seems promising.
I am taking a 700 SPS Varmint 17 FB and rechamber it (hopefully factory barrel is good) to 17 Tac. Gonna use Chan Nagels bullets 30 grain T000. What I have been told by Todd Kindler and others, is that Varget is one of the better powders, which is great cuz I got about 20 lbs of it. I really didn't need to get another powder.
Just getting this thing rolling has been a blast.
Who else has a wildcat round and what is it?

I've got a 35 Whelen Ackley Improved I had built in the 90s using a 1903 Springfield action and a Shilen 22" barrel. It shoots 250 grain bullets at just under 2700 fps and works nicely on elk.

I have two a 300 Wby that I improved by removing most of the body taper and putting a 40* shoulder on it. I have two rifles chambered for this round. My other long range pet a 338 Lupa Mag that I did the same to removed most of the body taper an put a 35* shoulder on her. Its always fun working up loads for wildcats.

My opinion wildcats are something developed by riflemen to drive their competitors nuts.

"Oh, don't you wish you had a .204-5.6AI like I do. Watch, I'll give you a little demonstration on how well it shoots."

I have two wild cats, a former one and a future one. The former one is the 6.5-308, no longer a wild cat as it is now known as the .260 Remington. I think though that Remington has discontinued chambering that in the M700, so it may be a wild cat again in the future. The .260 by the way has it's own wildcat known as the 6.5-.308AI which is made by fireforming the .260 brass in it's chamber. Then you need to buy another set of dies.

My future wildcat is the 7mm WSM, which it seems is loosing favor to the .270 WSM and slowly disappearing. It may be a wild cat therefore in the future that will be made from .270 WSM brass. Short fat and powerful with numerous really great bullets available for it and with reasonable recoil this is one of my favorites.

Well, I got everything in from WoodChuckDen (Todd Kindler) and MidSouth Shooters Supply. All I need now is the rifle, hi rings, and mount the scope. Then this Ole' boy will be ready to work up loads on the 17 Tac.
