Slow Around Here

Post by RAMOS »

Hope that means we have hit the time of year that everybody is out shooting! Dang wind is blowing so hard here right now, it would probably shove that bullet right back down the barrel. Been that way for three days. Anyway, happy hunting to all :)

Not much steady wind here, which is unusual, but I'll take it! The young prairie dogs are out playing on the mounds. That way the grass don't grow on the playing field for the 204rum guys coming out here next week. Memorial Day is notoriously wet and/or cool so hopefully we'll brake that nasty habit.

I was out shooting last week before the wind. Lotsa targets, baby squeaks got hit hard by my rimfire. Tried to save the .204 for the big "mossy-backs". It was a good shoot.

We have had a wet windy spring around my area so sage rat shooting has not been very good. Only got out one time so far this spring. It is load development time until the coyote pups are out running around.

Sidewinderwa, we are about two hours West of you. This spring has been a lot like the last one, cold and wet. Starting to wonder if it is the new norm for us. Not sure where this global warming thing is happening, sure ain't here! Nice thing about coyote pups, make ya feel like a pro calling them in :)

Wednesday was rainy and windy. Not a nice day. Thursday dawned sunny, still and just beautiful. Went to a friend's farm w/my hunting pard to hunt chucks. Me w/my new #1-B in .204 Ruger. The intent was to hunt chucs in the AM and then turkeys (w/our shotguns - PA regulation) in the PM. Well, no chucks in the AM. No opportunity for my new .204. In the PM we set up our blind, and.... no turkeys. While quietly talking, a chuck comes by parallel to our hide not five feet away! So stunned were we, that we didn't even grab our shotguns and have at the chuck. Oh well.

Ramos, after spending a total of 15 days out with the EORFS crew and our rifles on the ranch, and seeing this post just now....you're right. I've got some field fun with Skippy and his pals I could share....I'll get caught up with post-deployment chores and post it if you guys would like. (Think: "The Valley of Death", and you'll get the idea....)

Gotta keep this place interestin', right?

Rick! Great to hear you've been out burning up the winters' reloads. May 31st is fiscal year end w/ outside auditors showing up June 1st. I'll take a deep breath and relax after that is over. In the mean time, a vicarious hunt would be fantastic. After you get your gear squared away, of course :)

Okey-dokey then....I'll start uploading pics as soon as I can. This was quite a season...LOTS of big, healthy adult rats, and literally millions of juviniles everywhere you looked. Bench shooting our CF's, and both 'drive-by' and walkabouts with our 10-22's.....a year to remember.

Film at Eleven......

Been very slow here too, but lambs are starting to drop and that's bringing the foxes out.
Hopefully I'll get onto a few of them and get some pics posted.
But in the meantime - yes please Rick - show us your fun times.
BTW - what is "film at 11"?
