Fixing on buying some 34 Dogtown/ Nosler 34 hollowpoints and can't find any posts searching. I think the general rule is plastic tipped bullets are more explosive than hollowpoints, but are the Nosler's pretty violent ? They shot sub 1/2" in my stainless fluted rem 700 when it was in a hogue stock, but I haven't shot it in the new McMillen stock but suspect it will work ok, even though Nosler 40's in front of varget shoot bugholes so I may use those for longer shots.

Thanks for any thoughts on their performance

I shoot a fair number of the dogtown bullets in both my 20 vt and 204Ruger. They shoot 1/2 groups for me, at 100yrds. I use them from general shooting and jumping jack rabbits, etc. A few coyotes also. the VT load, I use, is 18.1 grns of RL10X. Work up to this in your rifle. In the 204 I use 27.8 grns of H4895. Again work up to this load in your rifle. It works fine in mine, but could be on the warm side in yours. If you go back a few posts, you can locate a couple of photos I had for me. that show the results of a few groups and also a couple of rabbits hit with them. Yes they do open them up very well. Any way that is my results and findings, in my rifles. Bill K

My mistake... My load for the 20VT is not 18.1 of RL10X... It is 18.1 of H4198. This is a good example of why you want to check your manual and loads, and not just jump on a load someone (as I did) posts.. Fingers make mistakes and that could cost you with damage to a weapon or your person... One reason I usually do not list loads/charges as I did here and as you see I made a mistake.. Check your manuals and go from there. Bill K

Allen: This should answer your question about the Nosler 34's:

Image

Range about 215 yards, speed about 3,500 fps out of my 20VT last season......I'm guessing this is what you were asking...... ;)

Ah... Fresh back straps Rick.. That looks about like what they do for me on rabbits, etc. Enjoy your photos. I am still playing with learning how to down load photos via Photobucket.. Dumb old me, just can not seem to get it. But in time. :wall: Bill K

Thanks for the replies.

Yes , Rick, the photo answers the question quite effectively. I know you reload for peak accuracy, it looks like you use them and are happy with their accuracy in some of your stable?

I was thinking if they don't shoot the best I could use them for the 200 yd and closer shots. I need to make another 5 to shoot with the Mcmillan stock, but expect accuracy to be better than they showed in the Hogue stock.

Thanks
