Well I got my new rifle today. It is a Savage 25 Varminter w/ a laminated thumbhole stock 24" bull barrel
1 to 12 twist
If any of you own this rifle let me know what you like or dislike about it. Also in reloading for it, what does your's like
to shoot?

I have one in 204........... the only thing I don't like is the magazine release, mine can be a pain sometimes to drop the mag.
Besides that it I love it

I love the looks and feel of thumbhole stocks.I have a hard time getting used to the accurigger. Some love them. Can't comment on the magazine,as my LRPV is a single shot.It should shoot the 39 SBKs well and maybe 40 VMax.Many powders will work.I had good results with Varget, but switched to IMR 8208 XBR because it loads well, shows less pressure for the velocity achieved, and is zero temperature sensitive.Make sure your barrel is freefloated. You should get small groups .

I OWN IN 204 AND LOVE IT VERY ACURATE . HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE COMMENT ON THE MAGAZINE. I USE WINCHESTER CASES, FEFERAL PRIMERS, 39 GRAIN SERRIA BLITZ KINGS, AND 25.1 GRAIN OF RELOADER 10X, ALSO IT SHOOTS .25 GRUOPS ALL DAY LONG

Looks nice....Very interested in how it shoots...the Model 25 has a lighter barrel but they say it is "sleeved" for rigidity......Whatever that means......Keep us posted please.....Paul

"Sleeved" means the barrel is slip-fitted into the receiver as are most rimfire rifles, and not threaded as most CF's are. This arrangement is cheaper to manufacture, and is intended for entry-level rifles that are not chambered for high intensity numbers such as the 204. It's very unusual for anyone to offer a sleeved barreled action for a cartridge such as the 204/223 family, but obviously Savage is doing it to make the caliber available to a wider range of users I'm guessing.
The more folks shooting, the better.

I took my new rifle to the range last thursday after reloading about 150 rounds of 39 gnBK, 32GN Nosler Varmit, AND 26 GN. Barnes HP
Starting with min loads and adding .5gns to each load up to max for each bullet type. After shooting 2 rounds to get on paper I started shooting for groups
The first 5 rounds I shot was using 26.0 gns of IMR 8208XBR using the 39gn BK Bullet and I just elated with a .25 group starting out. Ha As it turned out
it was the best of the 150 rounds. I've never been that lucky right from the start. All of the powder loads using the 39 BKs were very good but the rifle
didn't seem to like the lighter grain bullets, such as the 32 and 26 as much. I am now refinning the load for the 39BK starting with 25.8, 25.9, 26.0, 26.1, 26.2, and 26.3
and will work on seating depth next.
By the way I love the accurigger! Not sure why they call this rifle a light weight as it weighs 8.75 lbs.Ha and has a 24" bull barrel.
