9.4 pounds. Looked like last years. Chuck. Hair looked good as did his teeth. By far not the biggest I've killed here. They get pretty big round here.

That is a good-sized specimen!
The world's record at the Rock Chuck Derby in Bliss, Idaho, is 15 lbs 8 oz., and was shot in 2008.
This year, I do not yet know the final results. Reportedly, there was a 14 pounder entered.
I shot the largest on my two man team at 11.5 lbs.

I swear I've seen that varmint before. Isn't that the gopher from Caddyshack?
Sorry. I'm conflicted about getting out to play golf and shoot rodents. So little time, so many targets.

Thats a great shot. Good work! I wish I had some scales I killed a few large chucks I would have thought that they where way over 15 pounds. Has any body else out there weighed any over 15 pounds.

That was the 12th one this year for me. I noticed they have gotten smarter and sharper since they came out in early April. I can't walk up on them to get within 100 yards or so. I am still learning this game this is my first year Smokin Chuck's
I have a scale at my hunting Club. The heaviest was 14.3. We grow them big here in NJ, just like our taxes.

darchell: You're welcome buddy! Glad it all came together for you. Nice shot for sure, and nice chuck to boot. Don't you just love it when things just all come together?
We just returned from three days of solid shooting at our sage rats, about the size of small soda can. Without the come-up charts shooting in 20-25 mph wind, it would be impossible to hit the little rats out to almost 400 yards in the fields we were shooting. Even with the wind noise though, the solid "thwop" of bullet smacking rodent flesh could be heard that far away. Even at those ranges we could see the rat launch into the air, sometimes to what seemed like 15' high. Very cool stuff.
Thanks for posting, and congrats on the longest shot of your life!

Darchell:
How do you like the rifle? It is a Savage 12 VLP is it not? In .204? What kind of accuracy are you getting?
I had one of those in lefthand.

Love the rifle. Most accurate rifle I ever shot. My best group was three shots, I was only shooting three shot groups at the time to conserve on powder and primers, was .089. Just a rag hole. Average groups with this rifle, are under .5 ussualy between .3 and .5. I have shot several groups, not sure how many, in groups of 3, 4 and 5 and have not had any bigger then .890. As for how many groups I am not certain but do know I have shot approximately 200 rounds total. Still a young gun. The only negatvie about the rifle is it is a bench rifle. I can not shoot even close to accurate with it free hand. As seen in the picture, minus the hog, it weighs in around 12 pounds. Shoots great off the bipod though.

Rick in Oregon,
Where do you get the come-up charts? I have heard them mentioned, but haven't seen any. Thanks.
