k, this may sound strange to some but I have been reading that you can eat ground hogs. I have been hunting all my life and have tried some rather strange things but never tried a Whistle Pig. Word is they taste like pork, not chicken suprizingly  Anyone ever tried one?

I've ate them. Back in the 70's when we had groundhogs I would shoot the young ones along in August and cook'um on the grill. The young ones are easier to skin and are more tender. They are vegetarians, cleaner than a chicken or a regular hog. I thought they tasted more like chicken than pork though.

I think they taste best when dipped in milk then rolled in a mixture of flour & corn meal for a breading then fried with butter & onions. But they don't need to be cooked like that tho. I don't think they are as gamey as a rabbit or squirrel. We just used the legs from the young ones.

I have never eaten one. Last time I checked they were made out of meat, so they must be edible. Now as to how they taste.....that is another question.

I've never tried one myself but as the other guys have suggested, they can be eaten.

I do hear that your better served with the young ones tho'. Supposed to be more tender and better tasting than the older ones. Be sure not to cook them too long if ya take the dive. The longer ya cook them, the tougher they get.

I have heard that the native Americans ate them regularly, and still love them today. My brother tried one when we were kids, and it was quite greasy. However, I would think that they are quite good if prepared properly.
