First coyote with the 204

Post by Brad H »

Not much of a story. This one showed up at just over 100 yards at about 8 minutes of calling. It took a 39gr BK in the chest and was dead before it hit the ground. A nice Montana male. There was a second trailing that I didn't see till it ran off when this one dumped over. Hate it when that happens.

Thats a fine looking coyote Brad!! That black tail tip & nose sure stick out on that light coat. Is that a Howa?

The rifle is a Kimber Pro Varmint. And this was the 124th shot out of it. That is a nice coyote and a fur I'll be hanging onto.

Brad--Nice looking coyote and a fine job of calling and shooting.

Have you heard what prices on fur will be this year? The report around Williston is that the fur buyer probably won't even buy coyote/fox hides this year. Same story down in Dickinson, ND. The fur buyer isn't buying.

Hello Silverfox,

I haven't heard any prices but I kind of assumed the value would be down considering the economy. I spent the summer working north of Killdeer but when the price of oil dove everything came to a hault and from my understanding fur prices did the same thing.

If I hear anything new I'll let you know.

Very nice! Congrats to you. That's a nice coyote. Would look good on the wall.

How do you like that Kimber Pro Varmint? That's what I'm saving up for next.

AK204,

I don't have the experience to really compare it to anything but my Swifts. And still I haven't shot it that much. But from what I know so far it's money well spent. I know this, if aliens came down and zapped this gun up out of the blue I would also save up and get another just like it without hesitation.

I think you'll be happy with this investment.

I have taken a few dogs down with my .204 and it does a good job if you get them in the sweet spot. Over the holidays i took 3 yotes in a matter of 15 minutes. The biggest one i took weighted in at 65lbs or just about 30kg. He was a big dog. Took 4 shots to take him down.

Way to go Brad! Try making a wounded coyote call right after your shot as it can give you a shot at a second coyote, checking on it's mate. Nice rifle! :lurk:

Brad: Very nice dog, nice healthy winter Montana coat. Too bad about the fur prices right now, in the toilet like most other things lately.

Gotta love those Kimbers too, have not heard of any of them that won't shoot.
