The Rosebud Reservation has been poisoned!

    Glenn, about an hour after I telephoned you, Bill Whiting calls me to tell me all the dogs have been poisoned on Rosebud.

He said he went out to his favorite towns and saw only three dogs, called the Tribal Council and they told him they voted to poison them.

WITHOUT TELLING THE GUIDES ???!!!???

He's angry, got to send all the deposits back, including my 300.00, he said 89 guides are registered in the Rosebud and none knew about this.

Sounds pretty mucked up to me, I'm so doggoned mad right now I can't see straight.

I don't know what to make of this.

He did say there are dogs 50 miles to the north but he does not have permission to guide there.

Good luck and please let me know if you hear anything about this.

Scott

I got this email from a PD shooting buddy of mine, today, after we'd talked on the phone about our upcoming trips for this year. Scott was leaving in mid May, my trip is scheduled for mid June, but we're both reconsidering our options now.

If any of you have plans for the Rosebud Reservation area for PD shooting, I strongly advise checking your guide/rancher/outfitter/buddy and find out one way or another if there's been poisoning in the area you intend to hunt.

BTW, Scott, if you're reading this, I DID edit your email to a format useable in a family friendly forum (I changed some letters or words    so the filter wouldn't kick 'em out  )

I have been fishing on Native American (hope that is the right term) land for 40 years and I still cannot believe some of the things that are done to turn people away that want to spend money. We just got back from Pyramid Lake by Reno and they had closed half the lake to fishing just when all the people were coming. Go figure.

Scott just emailed me that he thought he smelled fish....................

I find it hard to believe myself, but stranger things have happened, and a lot of Indians DO NOT like guys running all over their land ('Indian' is okay, I had one guy tell me, "I ain't no Native American, I'm an Indian :D "

It does seem strange, though, that they'd kill off a cash cow that requires so little work for them, and brings in big $$$.

Plenty of pdogs on the lower brule rez; closer to KY, and no guides needed.

I haven't been on the Lower Brule, but I have a vague idea where it is :D We're going to a place just south of Vivian, but supposedly on the Rosebud (that covers a whale of a lot of ground) I don't know if we're going on the Rez or not, we've been told both the Rez and some private ground.

I think we'll be okay, but Scott is the one I'm worried about, his plans are shot to pieces, he's sorta stuck, but at least he's getting a refund on his deposit. He's had some hard luck trying to find dogs to shoot, plague, drought and "other considerations" have run him off from Cheyenne River, he refuses to go back there, and the Rosebud hasn't been kind to him, either. He's a heckuva nice guy, but he's sure had bad luck trying to find range rats.

Glenn Well, I think I still have a map that I can forward of the lower brule with names and numbers of private land owner as well as the public/rez lands.

Varminter Yes, lower Brule is in SD just west (adjacent) of the missouri across from Ft. Thompson.

Some good news, anyway. Scott DID get his money back from Mr. Xxxxxxxxxxx, so while he's not happy, he's not as mad.

With all their Casinos...They are making all kinds of money, so why would they want us on their land if they are making much easier money?
