I use a Harris BR model. That's 6-9 inches. I shoot off a bench or over the hood of my pickup and I find if I get any higher I need too much sand bag on the back to anchor the butt of the rifle. For prone position on a hunting rifle I use the 9-13 inch model so I can get over the grass a little better and I can make do on the hood by turning the bag up on edge for the butt. I used a longer model years ago for sitting but didn"t like it. So now I carry some "sticks" if I'm walking and they are adjustable for sitting, kneeling, or standing. Whatever bipod you choose I would recommend the swivel feature so you can square the cross hairs of the scope. Sight in and practice with the bipod so you don't even have to think about it in the field it will just be natural.

I use the harris 9-13 for my walking rockchuck hunting. For coyotes Stoney point rapid pivot bipod is awesome.

I use 9-13 on my remmy, I also carry sticks once in awhile. Sometimes the bipod is just too low.

What not use the longer ones? I think the next size is 13-22

I think i have the harris 12-27 ones and they work great for me, i like shooting sitting down so they are great for me, you just have to learn how to use your knees for more steady shooting.

i have 2 harris bipods. a 6-9 and a 9-13. i like the 6-9 the best, but sometimes ya just need that extra height when in the brush.

I use Shooter Ridge 6-9" and have Stony Point sticks for anything higher than that.

I shoot either sitting or standing, so I use Stoney Point Pole Cat Bi Pod sticks.
They helped me take a 'yote at 400 yards from a standing position while walking INTO a stand one morning!
If your shooting MAINLY from a sitting (calling) position get the Harris that goes to 36". A little bulky (like 14" closed) but nice when sitting. Too long to use at the bench.

Good sticks, man!
(Well - a 2 ounce trigger and LOTS of practice out to 600 yards helps!)

I made 2 sets of als bi fur pods one in green camo and one set in snow camo.
you can open them up and use them standing. or traditionally as cross sticks.
I like them. and cheap to make.
