the 40's put a pretty big entrance hole in coyotes there is another post here talking about why it would put a big entrance hole. Think it’s expending so much energy after entering that you get a kind of blowback that gives you a softball size hole with no exit hole. Most use 35gr Berger if you are worried about saving the pelt, but I haven’t had a chance to down one with the 35’s yet. If you are just looking to put them down and don’t care about the pelt then the 40’s work very well.
someone talked to berger and they told him to try and push it faster to get more penatration but have heard if he's had a chance to try it yet.

I've shot 6 coyotes now with the 40gr Bergers. I know that's not a huge number, but I've found little hide damage, and no blowback whatsoever. I chose the 40gr over the 35's because of the higher BC.
Hope this helps and good luck to you.

204Yoteman,
Here is a pic of a yote shot with 40 grain Berger.
You can just see the neet little entrance dot hole in the junction of neck and left shoulder. There was no exit.

I initially had a problem with the 40gr but I was loading them too slow. I have put some A$$ behind them (near max) and they are performing MUCH better.

I also use the 40gr bergers on coyotes (and fox and bobs). Tiny hole in, dime sized exit on fox and cats. No exit on coyotes. Great little bullet.
