Hi guys. Long time viewer first time poster.
I've just been offered a couple of rifles for sale and I'd like opinions on both.
First is a custom 204 Remington 700 with a Walther barrell on blueprinted action. As new condition. I know it groups really well with 32 gr v-max and 39 gr sbk. The 40 gr v-max aren't as good but still not bad at just over .5 moa.
I don't have a lot of experience with this calibre and am a bit worried it won't penetrate enough for fox which is what it will be mainly used for.
Second rifle is a sako 85 in 22-250. This rifle is also in as new condition.
I have no experience with this gun and don't know how it shoots. The seller is looking for more than twice the price of the Remington too.
I've had a 250 on and off for a few years and know its a great calibre.
So what do you guys think?
Thanks.

Re: 204 for fox.
The 204 is capable of blowing a Fox in 1/2. I doubt you will be disappointed in it's performance on Fox out to 400yds.
Here is an Ohio groundhog. In my opinion they have a tougher skin than a Fox.

I've used the .204 on several badgers and it puts them down easily. I think you would be happy with the performance of the .204 on fox.

.204 will flatten foxes for fun mate!
It will beat the .22-250 in terms of trajectory and wind drift as well, and for far less powder and noise.

Re: 204 for fox.
Just for kicks, with my 204, I have shot at 1/2 in. plate mild steel, just to see what it would do. To my surprise, with a 32gr VMax running right at 3900 fps, at 100 yards, this caliber darn near went all the way trough the plate. Also, the same day I shot some 1/8 in plate steel, same distance, same bullet, same velocity, I was really surprised to see a hole through the plate steel, that looked like you had drilled that hole! That being said, most of my shooting is at "skippy", and the same bullet blows them up with devastating results, as do the 39 gr. sbk and the 40gr. VMax. FWIW, I believe the 204 will handle the fox, maybe better than the 250 will. Just my 2 cents!

Thanks gents. I think I'll give the 204 a try. It's been something that's been on my mind for ages. I'll save myself the best part of 700 euro too.
