European boar with .204Ruger

Post by Geno »

Morning all.
I took my mate Gé and his daughter out this past weekend to draw first blood with my .204.
Here are his words:

Geno arranged that I come cull a wildboar that Vincent needed to get rid of. The pig was very aggressive towards horses and people. The idea was to shoot it with my recurve bow. I was gratefull but asked if my 11 yr old daughter can shoot it with a rifle. They agreed.
Geno very kindly supplied a brand new Howa in .204 Ruger. She spent some time saturday morning getting used to the .204. Those 32gr V-max's go where she aims at 100m.
Come sunday morning we made our way to Geno and then to Vincent.
All set up and my daughter dispatches the boar with a brain shot.

She knows that she merely shot it and did not hunt it. Yes it was canned. Yes it was to be slaughtered regardless but was too aggressive to catch and slit it's throat as per norm.
Yes I am proud of her. Thanks guys for the opportunity granted to me and my kid.

Myself (Geno) also shot a baboon at around 220yds, dead on the spot.
And we also got a few dassies (rock hyrax). They turn into acrobats when hit by the 32gr bullets! :)

Cheers,
Eugene

I guess to me it don't matter if it was out running wild with no fence or not. She showed the fortitude to stand up to this opportunity and did so tremendously. Great job, love the video and that is a great picture of a proud new shooter.

I agree WY - the point is she had the courage to shoot with the mighty .204R, and use it for a clean kill.

I have a 10yr old niece that enjoys shooting my (soon to become hers) air rifle, and the .22lr doesn't scare her either. But I reckon it'll be a while before she pulls the trigger on a CF.

Congrats to your friend's daughter. The video shows her skill well - being able to wait for the animal to sit and squeeze the perfect shot off with no hesitation before it moved again.

Thanks Geno

Great job! I'd love to see the baboon. Those things are hideous. I have no sympathy for those creatures.
