Memorial Weekend Chucks
Went and visited some friends on saturday and had a 3 hour window to do some shootin. Between the 5 of us we got 26 (23 pictured). Great times with great friends!
Here is a monster bore and sow I took with the ol' crow bar I pack around. They are the two in the upper pic, bottom far left. I can only claim 6.

hueys66--Congratulations on a great hunt. Sure wish the weather would have cooperated for my son and me, but it was too wet to tackle the gumbo clay of the badlands of ND for our planned prairie dog hunt. Maybe next weekend.
Thanks for the pictures.

Re: Memorial Weekend Chucks
Thank you much. Here in Central Oregon it is hard to beat a good rockchuck spot. I have a couple spots to shoot rats and there are so many of them (i know this sounds weird) it gets boring, the ranch manager dont think so though. Hope Rick's ears aren't burnin, he lives just down the street. A couple of the guys I was shootin with had 204 MKII's and got me thinkin I need to get the dust scraped off mine and get a load worked up for it. Any suggestions for a startin point with the 700 VLS?

Re: Memorial Weekend Chucks
Nice job. For my Remington's (VLTHSS) 28.0 of RE-15, RP-case, R 71/2, 39 SBK @ 2.260 OAL produces consistent .5 x .5" groups @ 200 yards. I've tried other loads of lesser charges but this one is the one I use now. Later on I'll try some RE-10X and Benchmark.
H4895 works pretty good too but I have-not had that good of luck with Varget. Varget will shoot 1" groups @ 200 yards but when I can get 1/2 inch or less with RE-15 at 200 plus its easier to find I'll just shoot that. I've tested it from the mid 20's to 100 degrees and the accuracy is still ther, no pressure signs either.

Re: Memorial Weekend Chucks
Boring? If I haven't gotten bored shooting Skippy and his pals after all these years, doubtful I'll get bored anytime soon. Really though huey, a good rock chuck morning is hard to beat. I'm with ya on that one!hueys66 wrote:Hope Rick's ears aren't burnin, he lives just down the street.
Tell ya what though, that pic above fully equals any of the best days on rock chucks I've ever had here.......THAT, was a grand day to be sure!

Rick: Let me rephrase boring. I have only used rimfire on them and it gets a little old reloading mags. I guess if I would get my VLS out and shoot it it would be a bit more fun

Re: Memorial Weekend Chucks
Rimfire mags on Ohio groundhogs are for me a total blast. I don't get to bust em very often with the MKII 22LR but I think I'll try it some more this summer.

Re: Memorial Weekend Chucks
Yup, a good rockchcuck shoot is hard to beat! Congrats. We spent a couple of days this week going long range again but the results were less than impressive. A buddy came with his BAT action .284. I may have clipped a toe at around 1500 but no confirmed kill. Had a good time slingin' lead though! Seems the 'chucks are thinking of their holes so I think we're nearing the end for us. Kinda' brings tear to the eye!
