lets twist!

Post by kenbrofox »

Here again,
I've decided to re-barrel my M7 22/250 to 243. Is there a twist rate that will shoot bullet weights from the lightest to the heaviest in this caliber, if so what is it and how many grooves would be best? If there isn't a twist rate to do this, i would prefere to use the lightest bullets over the heaviest.
Another query here. I have been offered a brno 601 in 223 thats in very good condition and was thinking to re-barrel it in 204R. Does anyone have any reasons why this might not be a good idea. I've been told the older brno's were well made, but i have no experience with them. Thanks.kenbro

Ken: For twist, you can't have it all by way of the lightest to the heaviest 6mm bullet, but if you use a ten twist, you'll be able to stabilize any bullet from 55 to 100 grains. If you just want to shoot the lighter bullets, I'd go with a twelve twist.

I know the Brno would be a good choice to rebarrel, but those are nice rifles, do you really want to rebarrel yours? If it's a good shooting .223, why tear it apart? If you want to build a 204, can you import or buy actions there? Why not just get a M700 short action and have at it? The 700 action would be theoretically more accurate than the Mauser style Brno, and aftermarket parts for the Remmy are like dinking with a small block Chevy or a Ruger 10-22; parts everywhere. Just a thought. :chin:

Rick,
ordered a 6 groove 10 twist x243 to go in M7.
Re. the brno..... i don't own it, but i can do for about 1/3 the price of a new action alone, and i think it looks quite a neat little rifle with a hogs back stock and a single set trgger. Thanks, ken. :?PS. This internet is the best ever invention for making pocket books weigh less!
