They will use a man made trail but it seems they don't very often in my area. They tend to stay closer to the deer trails here. Now if an area has been logged then they will use those a lot. The main part of coyote hunting is scouting. Next summer go for walks in the woods along known trails & look for coyote tracks & scat with hair in it. This will help you a bunch. That RF will work fine for what you're doing. I use mine for deer, turkey, coyotes,& groundhogs. As you use your RF more often you will find that judging distance by eye gets easier. Play a game of guess & see with it. Guess the yardage to the pole in the front yard from the back yard then check it with the RF & see how close you are.

yea i did and i also called some in but it was last weekend when we dident have snow...so i couldent see them across the feild so now i am looking for a light. but this weekend we got 16 inchesof snow..i was wondering if the deep snow would make the coyotes more sneaky or would it make a difference?
