Post by BunGhoLeo »

For the past hour i have been picking off wasps trying to make a nest under my porch with my CZ 452 .17 HMR. So far 22 dead

Won't the 17 do more damage than the wasps?

Every year at this time we have a nice plague of carpenter bees (look like bumblebees). They drill perfect .50 caliber holes in our log house.

They fly away when hit with wasp and hornet poison. A couple years ago I started using my S&W 617 10-shot loaded with .22LR birdshot and usually get nine of 'em for ten shots.....sometimes get a double! :)

I make a small dent in them before June when they "disappear"......until next year.

I shoot red squirrels (size of a chipmunk maybe a bit bigger) from our deer blinds as they always chatter and give us up. While waiting for them to come in, I've shot 3 mice as well.

I have hunted grasshoppers with 22 LR and bird shot but never got 9 out of ten these guys are moving on when you jump them
If not for my forgetful nature remembering things would be no problem at all.

Got a total of 27 wasps. I know this is close range, 50 feet, but it still amazes me the accrucy of this rifle at 100 meter+. I guess i will have to try for flys and mesquitos next.

Earl Three Beavers We have those also, i use carberator cleaner to kill those. It's an instant kill if it's a direct spray, if they just get misted they fall to the ground. Wasp killer had no effect.[/b]

Don't do this all the time, but once some time back, I was shooting groups with my 223 Ackley, and there was a fresh cow pie about 10' in front of my target. Of course, I pondered what effect a Nosler 50 BT would have at 3700 fps into the fresh goo.

At the shot, the predictable splatter messed up my target somewhat. Once flies started landing on the mess, I started picking them off with the rifle from 100 yards. So much for my group shooting that session, but a live target beats paper any day!

That target backer wasn't much use after that day.......go figure.

HAHA, good one rick! Guess i'll have to start picking flys off the house next. :P What would really be impressive is if we stared picking them off in flight.

It was great fun and taught me how to shoot ..

Carb cleaner! I'll just bet that messes up their jetting. ;) I'll try some this evening. Thanks.
