DOES ANYONE HAVE A LOAD FOR H 4198 USING THE 39 BK FOR THE 204RUGER?
I don't see one on Hodgdon web site.

I was in my local gun shop a while back and bought H4198 instead of IMR4198 thinking I could use it instead. I, like you, then looked for a load and couldn't find it. I called Hodgdon and asked about it. They said they never tested it and didn't recommend it. Even though they're close on the burn rate charts I never tried it. I ended up using it in my Remington 30 AR with 110 gr Hornady VMaxs. It puts three shots in one ragged hole. At least it's not going to go to waste.
If you end up trying it please post back or PM me and let us know how it works. I have 1 1/2 pounds of the stuff.

Hodgdon's Data site shows H4198 start of 23 grain, with max of 24.5 with the 26 grain bullet. You could probably try around 21 grain with you 39 grain, maybe and see how it works and go from there. Caution is advised. Bill K

I think you're going to find H4198's burn rate too fast for the 39's. They will probably work much better with something in the H4895, IMR4895, IMR 8208 burn range. Of course I'm not saying you can't work out a load and shoot them, but I don't believe you can get the best of both accuracy and velocity with the H4198 and 39 sbk combination. That's just my opinion, and you might see it differently.

I did the same thing and am now sitting there with a full can. I have been loading 8208xbr and thought I could use the h4198 as it is an extreme powder also.
My gun seems to like the lower velocities and I read that the 8208 runs higher velocities by 200 to 300 fps. My last time at the range was a group of about .40 with 26.3 gns
so I'm playing with seating depth next. Going to range on Tuesday 3-27.
