Has anyone tried the new Hornady/Hodgdon Superformance or CFE223 powders in the 204 yet?
If so what did you think of them?

BK: really haven't shot enough of it to know so far. I just loaded up 25 rounds to check how they shot in relation to what I'd been using with Benchmark and IMR8208.

After making sure I was "sighted in" sufficiently, I put 12 rounds on target fairly quickly.....16" barrel with Nikon 3-12 scope and my 71 year old eyes.....

Vargtarg that looks promising for sure.
How does it compare to your other powders for velocity? Benchmark has been quite clean in my rifles as far as carbon and gives very nice accuracy but does keep up wit some of the other powders i`ve tried. If I can get clean, good accuracy, and velocity, I`d be in high cotton for sure.

Just out of curiosity, what was your bullet and load on the CFE ? Bill K And that was the 223, not the 20vt, right ?

I'm picking up a pound today. I'm interested to see how it will compare to my two "go to" powders Reloder 10X and 8208XBR. Does anyone know if it's a temp sensitive powder?

Ol' Joe, I have a pound of Superformance my son got for his 300WSM. Last time I checked there was no loading data for 204. I even called Hornady and they said it was not formulated for 204. I pulled apart a Hornady factory 204 round and the factory powder looks and smells exactly like the Superformance.

BK: 26.7gr under a Hornady 60gr Vmax, Rem 7 1/2 primer, Win brass......and it may not be very important, but I treat all my bullets with WS2....

You are right! I was not thinking when I included them in the with CFE223. :duh:

I believe though I saw somewhere CFE was similar in design to the new "Super powders" . I don`t knew for a fact this is true, but do know it is of recent manufacture of St Marks the same as the others.
I do know too from chats with others and Hodgen that the superformance lines are cartridge specific and don`t give those great velocity increases in but a few choice cartridges. They may work in your boys 300wsm but give ho-hum speeds in your 308. They blend the powder(s) specifically for each cartridge in the factory lines and only offer one general blend to the public.
I am hoping to find a powder that will give me decent velocity and very good accuracy in both my 223s and 204, and if it is noticably cleaner burning then powders I`ve been using, so much the better. :)

Always the optimist, maybe I`m just dreaming as usual... :wall:

When Hornady Lite-Mag ammo came out a dozen or so years ago, I used it in my 30.06. It shot great and lived up to it's hype, a 180gr bullet @ 2880 fps out of a 22" barrel. But just to add, all the other goodies came with it...recoil and blast.

Regarding CFE...I haven't tried it either but I don't think it, nor Superformance is one of their "Extreme" lines of powder.

Always interested in seeing load data.. I am planning of using it (or trying it) in 204 Ruger, 223 and maybe 20VT.. Bill K
