Finally a great load for the .204

Post by tundrabob »

Purchased a Savage 12FV, 204 in March of this year. Have been working up various loads since then, and just tried Reloader 10X and really tightened the groups up.
Cases-WW
Outside neck turned
End milled primer pockets
Deburred flashholes
Fed 205M Primers
Bullet Berger 40 grain
Powder 24.5 of Reloader 10X
2.300" OAL
2.930" Sinclair Bullet Comparator

Just tried 10X, and the loads are a little better than Benchmark and H322

Here is a picture of the group. Will be competing in the rifle clubs Ground Hog shoot, similar target in factory class this weekend.

You just saved me some work Bob. I picked up some 10X last night and have been having difficulty finding any load data for 40gr bullets. I even tried calling Hornady and they didn't have anything for 10X and 40gr Vmax. They suggested I use load data for 39gr BK's and knock the max down half a grain.

10X is quite a hex for buck toothed little critters.
Bullets fly and rodents die, and soon turn to pasture fritters.

I like it too!

10x Powder has been my go to powder in both 32 gr Blitzkings and the 35 gr Berger. I have 4 different 204s and every rifle likes the 10x powder loads with those bullet combinations. A friend shoots a .223 Ackley improved with great results using 10x and 50 gr Nosler B -tips..

I just started using RL-10X with a 40 grain A-Max and am impressed with the performance and accuracy in a factory Savage barrel.

Fred....very impressive to say the least. When you list "tungsten coated", I presume you refer to WS2?

RL-10X is my go-to powder in the 204R in all four of my rifles also.....good stuff for sure. :D
