I just ordered some 34 gr Dogtown's and was wondering if any forum members have experience with this bullet. Bottom line, did I waste my money on a cheap bullet or do they perform well?

I've shot them some. They are Nosler bullets that it appears to me just didn't get the plastic tips put on them. Have shot some groups in the .3's using H322, Benchmark, and W748 at between 3,850 and 3,900 fps. Overall I'd say they are a .5 to .7 moa in my rifle with most powders. They don't feed well from the mag in my Savage.

i have shot them out of a couple of my 204's. For the money they are a good bullet if you are doing volume shooting at relatively close range (200 yards or under). I have been able to shoot a best of approximately a 1" group or just a bit under with them. The only real downfall to these bullet is their low BC. Just my 2 cents.

I've shot them, and I will continue buying them. I shot about 100 of them last week at pDogs and they are accurate and destructive. I was happy with them.

Both the Dogtown and Varmint Nightmare bullets are made by Nosler for the bulk bullet market. Nothing fancy, just cup-drawn lead core HP bullets.

Yup, not bad for the money.... as my COAL they won't feed from the mag either.. but I do like them.

Got some varmint nightmares and could not be happier with them. They shoot under an inch at 100 yards. And just about an inch at 200.21.5 gr. Of 4198.

My Savage is set up with a single shot follower so feeding is not an issue. I've used the Varmint Nightmare Extreme bullets and have had great success with them in my bolt actions and ARs.

I'll give the Dogtown's a try on the d--ned squirrels around here. Their population has exploded this year and they've become a real PIA so I want to turn a bunch into red mist hamburger for the Coyoties.

They are the very same bullet, made on the exact same press, just a different name for a different bulk bullet customer.

Yep, just the price, is the difference. Weather you purchase them from Midway USA or Midsouth shooters.. Bill K

Just checked UPS and the Dogtowns are "out for delivery". Looks like I'll be working up loads just as soon as my new barrel gets here from Northlander in a week or so.

I've been checking around for more brass and it seems like all my usual haunts are showing out of stock on 204R and 6.5 Lapua.

I have shot around 100dog towns and have a box of 500 on the bench. With the right load they shoot excellent, in the 3s in my ar 15! I have noticed a few more flyers but not bad. I will continue to use the for plinking and they re more than acurate enough for Coyote! So far my pet load is 40 grain v max. I have finished test loads for 40grain Bergers. I will post my results after test. Bergers are awfull pricey for plinking though!

Amen to that! With the right load though, they shoot bughole in my 6mm Norma BR, 223AI and 6.5 Lapua. Still waiting for my 204 Ruger barrel to arrive

Barrel arrived Tuesday evening. I installed and headspaced it yesterday morning and headed to the range with some factory Winchester 34gr and four batches of test load with the 34gr Dogtowns They were pushed by IMR 4895/26.5, 26.7 26.9 and 27.1 grains. All loads seated to an OAL of 2.248". These rounds were loaded before the factory 1/12 twist barrel arrived. Best loads so far were the 26.9 and 27.1 grain loads, they produced .897 and .899" groups with SDs in the teens and ES in the 30 fps range. I'm going to increase the charges because velocities were only in the 3700 fps range. The factory Winchester 34gr averaged 4042 fps for 10 shots but accuracy was poor in the 2.5" range. Usually, factory Savage barrels are "copper mines" when new, this one surprised me with very little copper even after 40 rounds.

Tom, that sounds good for your first attempt on the new barrel. I haven't shot IMR 4895 with 32's or 34's, so can't help there. I have shot it some with 40 v-maxes. It gave reasonably good accuracy, right at .5-.6 moa with 27.4g producing a velocity averaging at 3,800 fps in a Savage 1x12, 22" barrel. That was the best load I found with IMR 4895, but I didn't shoot it extensively. I think you'll be able to go easily another whole grain higher to get your velocity up closer to 3,900. I couldn't get the ES consistently any better than what you were getting.

The 34's work good for me seated at 2.245 which gives me an ogive measurement of 1.985, so we're pretty close on that. H322, W748, and IMR 8208 XBR all shoot in the .3's for me with the 34 Midsouth VE's and give me between 3,850 and 3,900 fps.
