Which loads have you tried? If it's the 40's your rig may not like them. Some do. Some don't. Some tolerate them. If it's the 32gr'ers double check all of your scope mount screws. I don't remember anybody having any particularly great groups from the 24gr Winchesters either.

Time to start reloading. I have a rem sps in 204 and it never shot factory ammo sub moa. after reloading my gun will group sub .5 moa It will take some time to find the right combo of bullet powder and primer but when you do it is hard to beat

varmint hunter--I have never tried shoot factory rounds with the 39 gr. Sierra BlitzKings, but my handloads with 39 gr. SBKs are the cat's meow in my three .204 Rugers.

I don't have a Remington 700 LVSF .204, only an old Savage 12VLP .204 with the factory 1 in 12 twist barrel that has over 2,700 rounds through it, a 12VLP with a 1 in 11 Pac-Nor 3 groove barrel, and a Savage Target Action with a Lilja 1 in 12 twist 3 groove barrel. The old 12VLP shot 32 gr. Hornady V-Max factory ammo just great. It also liked my handloads using 35 gr. FBHP Bergers, 39 gr. SBKs, and 40 gr. Hornady bullets, but didn't like 40 gr. Bergers or 40 gr. V-Max handloads.

I have only shot the 39 gr. Sierras in my Savage Target action .204. My 12VLP with the Pac-Nor barrel shoots the 32 gr. V-Max, 35 gr. Bergers, 39 gr. Sierras, and 40 gr. V-Max just great!!!

Maybe you need to spend a wee bit more time testing the factory loaded 39 gr. Sierras That is a bullet that most .204 shooters seem to be able to get to shoot great. If you can't find a factory load that works, it is probably time to get into reloading, time to rebarrel your rifle, or time to get a different rifle.

If you do start to reload, make sure you start your powder charges weight down close to the starting load charges and work your way up at no more that .2 of a grain at a time. Good Luck!!

I have a Remington 700 SPS in .204 and I consistantly get 3/8" three shot groups at 100 yds with Hornady 40 gr Vmax factory ammo.

I don't have a Remmy, but the facts still apply with my savage 12 VLP: I sprayed any Hornday ammo 6" @ 100yd. Handloading brought me into the sub 0.5" class, with both the 32 and the 40 gr hornady vmax bullets. Same for sierra blitz kings in 39 gr. You'll probably just have to spen some time tinkering, which is great fun!!.

FWIW, I found the Hornady brass (from their ammo) was not good at all, case capacity was all over the map, which is a big no-no. I'm sure that was to blame for the awful hornady ammo groups.

I tested the 39gn Sierra's in the Federal Factory load in my Savage VLP on the weekend. My 5 shot group was 0.6 of an inch (sorry to all of you imperial experts) at 100yards. Try the 39's. Most seem to get great results.

I have a lvsf in .204. I shoot the 39g sierra and also the 35 gr berger. All hand reloads. Powder-4895. Search this site for reload info. This is not a tack driver. I use it to kill all of my coyotes though.

Have the same rifle. Try this.

Win brass
CCI 450 mag primers
39gr Sierra bks
24.7gr 10x powder
2.252 oal

Very accurate in my lvsf.

Good Luck

A new barrel may be prone to copper fouling. Both of my 204's (Savage 10 predator hunter max-1,Ruger 77) were. I use Barnes CR-10 copper remover.
I have also found bullet seating to be a huge issue. I keep mine at about 2.30". For me, couple thousanths off the lands was too inconsistant.

got my lvsf back with a new hart barrel. it shoots great now i think rebarreling one is a good deal they have a decent pillar bedded stock. mine is now shooting .4 5 shot groups with 32 and 39 grainers. they are even shooting to the same point of impact. good luck with yours. anyone need a crap barrel ?
