.204 Cleaning Patch Size

Hi, I asked for 20 cal cotton patches at the local outdoor store and was given a bag of small rifle patches. "This fits all small calibre rifles" the kind fellow says. Well they didn't work! After carefully pulling off all the stickers from the bag I noticed the fine print indicates 22 cal.
What is the proper dimension of a square cleaning patch for a 20 Cal? I've got to cut them down to make them fit.
I will have to pick up some 20 cal cleaning patches the next time I am in the US.
Thanks
Griffy

Square ones,3/4",and round 1".Also depends on the taper of the jag you are using.

I use 1-1/8" square Pro-Shot cotton patches with their .20 cal jag....works perfectly. You can use this same patch for 22's and 6mm's too, just change to the proper size spear-point jag per caliber.

As RIO said, but I have some "heavier" patches I perfer on the 20 cal. jag that are good-n-tight. The Pro-Shots are the only ones I have found that give me a good fit for 22 & 6mm, others are too heavy. You cou try a 17 cal jag with your current patches and see if they get the job done.

Dewey....the cleaning rod people, have thier own brand of patches. 1000 in a bag, $12.00 or $13.00 something like that. Nice tight fit in the bore but not too tight. All I use now. Order them straight off thier web page.

I tried 3/4" squares for a very short time, then switched to 1" squares. They seem to be perfect to me.

I just use 30 cal patches and cut them in 1/2.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am now using the 1.25" circle patches purchased from Sinclair (Brownells...# is 084-268-002) with great results. I would also recommend them if anyone else who may be looking for tight fitting patch.
Thanks

If the patches are too big, snag them toward the corner with your jag instead of right in the middle and they will probably work out for you. It will save you having to cut them down.
