not quite as good as my 32gr V-max load,,and I was nervous shooting my 5'th round,in fear that the group would ruin,,and I know I pulled the bottom shot low.Good enough to hunt with though,,will chrony this weekend,,suspect it should be around 3700fps.and on another note, did this load development with the audette optimum charge weight load development,,,took only 10 round's to figure out
savage mdl 25 lv
24'' med.contour barrel
1-12 twist
h4895 27.3gr
40gr V-max

thank's !! I"m really interested on wether or not I can anchor some coyotes with it. Last night I had one in my sight's,except I thought 408 yards was a little far to experiment,,I anchored a skunk with this load at about 154 yards though last week,,,and I mean ANCHORED,,lol

dozernomore--Good shooting!!! That nice small grouping will serve you well. The 40 gr. V-Max with a BC of .275 will be a lot better choice of bullet if you do any shooting in the wind. Your powder charge for the 40 gr. V-Max is .1 grain heavier than mine for my new/used Savage 12VLP in .204 Ruger with a super match grade SS 1 in 11 twist 3-groove Pac-Nor barrel.
I'm using WW brass and my load of 27.2 gr. of H4895 is pushing the hBN coated 40 gr. V-Max bullets and giving me a muzzle velocity of 3,825 fps. My COL is about 2.322" which puts the ogive .010" off the lands in this barrel. This load is deadly on prairie dogs and you get a lot of hang time when you hit them a wee bit low--they fly pretty high in the sky.
Keep us posted how this load is doing on live targets as you get out and do more hunting.

For coyotes, Hornadys 45 gr. Spire Point (based on there Interlok bullet) will penetrate better and NOT blow up on the close shots.
